Halloween is just a week away and we still have a few fun, festive cheeses to add to your Halloween party menu 🎃
👻 Boxcarr Handmade Cheese’s Cottonboo is a soft-ripened bloomy-rind made with pasteurized goat and cow's milk. They take their cheese called Cottonbloom and add annatto for that bright orange paste and ash to the rind to celebrate the colors of spooky season. It’s mildly tangy and bright, with salted butter notes. Add a jam or make it savory with some olive tapenade.
💀 Moses Reaper is Jasper Hill Farm’s take on a classic Brie style. Here’s what they have to say about this cheese: “Moses is an approachable and nuanced soft-ripened cheese. Beneath its thin, bloomy rind lies a gooey, milky core showing a complex array of flavors at peak ripeness: cauliflower, crème fraîche, and toasted nuts. A bright, clean finish with a hint of white mushroom aroma follows the rich flavors of the paste."
🎃 Is it a cantaloupe or a pumpkin? No, it’s a Mimolette! Distinctive for its rotund shape and bright orange interior coloring, Mimolette brings the party to your autumn cheese plate. The cheese has a natural rind that is pock-marked by the nibbling cheese mites that provide a floral flavor to the cheese, and the fiery paste is colored with annatto.
Mimolette has become our unofficial Halloween cheese over the years, not only for its appearance, but because it happens to pair exceptionally well with candy corn 🌽. Aged for 6 months, this cheese is made from pasteurized cow’s milk.
