Chèvre aux Fruits Abricots

May we tempt you with this devilishly diminutive cheese? I suggest buying several and starting with a couple on your Holiday cheese board for the ravenous but admiring masses. Then, the next day, as you survey the yuletide carnage that has happened to your home, you can put another one on leftover bread and top with chopped nuts (hot honey drizzle is optional). Now you're ready to clean, process leftovers, watch parades, drink eggnog, hang lights, patch up the family fight, re-caulk your bathtub... you do you.

French Feta at The Cheese Box!

As you probably already know, last month featured National Sneak a Zucchini on your Neighbor’s Porch Day. I decided to let the social media frenzy die down before I made our post. Besides, I know all you gardeners still have plenty of zucchini!

Now, if you have been to the shop before or have ever talked to Ari for more than a few minutes—it has probably become apparent that he thinks of vegetables only as a conduit for sauces or cheese. In fact, he thinks sneaking a zucchini on to anyone’s porch as an act of domestic terrorism that can only be made right by also gifting a couple of gorgeous tomatoes and some of our French Feta, too. Now you have a complete and delicious side dish and even better, you have proven yourself a top notch neighbor.

One warning though, after feta this good, some other fetas can be reminiscent of clay pellet kitty litter. Eat at your own risk!

Black Garlic Manchego-Style Cheese

There are some advantages to being the head of marketing for The Cheese Box, even though it is an unpaid position currently and I am the only person in the department. However, I do get to influence which cheeses we keep in stock with vague statements like, "my market research shows" or "this tested positively within the target segment". By target segment I mean me and that this is one of my favorite cheeses.

Just look at this beauty. She has a slight sweetness from the garlic that plays perfectly with the nuttiness of the Manchego style cheese. Those veins of black garlic are like gold. This cheese should be traded on the precious metals market. It should be handled with white gloves and with voices kept at a respectful murmur. Municipalities should stockpile it against an uncertain future in silos. Conspiracy theorists should keep it under their bed. You see where I am going with this. Follow me for more investing tips.

Oh my gosh, our first run of vegan cheeses went so well that we are on our second order. And that is why we have expanded to an incredible THIRD option! Rebel's Honee Pistachio Chevre. Vegan Cheese at The Cheese Box

Calling all fans of the fauxmage! A while back we had a vegan cheese tasting, and we found some winners. The Cheese Box is proud to introduce you to two of our favorites from Rebel Cheese out of Austin.

Since I have been dilatory with the deets, procrastinating on the pics, and overdue on the oh hell yeah this cheese is good, Ari has been selling them to non-vegans. He can do that because this Brie has an actual rind! How do they do that? And the Tomato Herb Fromage is your plant-based pizza prayers answered, though I think that a caprese-ish salad would be good too.

The weather is supposed to be nice this weekend and it sounds like these cheeses could be your weekend plans. Vegan BBQ anyone?

A Cheese Learning Luncheon with Kim from Jasper Hills - Thursday May 30th at 11:30 AM and 1:30 PM - Atrium Kitchen @ Pike Place Market

Attention all you afternoon delighters, you lifetime learners, you curd nerds! Jasper Hills is coming to The Cheese Box this Thursday for a Learning Luncheon at the Atrium Kitchen. Kim from Jasper Hills will be there to explain and entertain, our mongers have come up with delightful food and beverage pairings, and we are barely restraining Ari from going OTT. Of course, it is hard to restrain him when there are goodies like Harbison being featured. You grab a bag of potato chips and cut the top off the Harbison and have the most elegant and sophisticated chips and dip you will ever have. You could even stick your little pinkie out if you wanted to.

There will be two seatings; one at 11:30 AM. and another at 1:30 PM. Stop by the shop or call The Cheese Box at 206-636-7556 to purchase your ticket. We can't wait to see you and your pinkies on Thursday!
