I think everyone would agree that one of the MAJOR staples of the Chestertown Farmers Market is Lapps Bakery. Their baked goods are like no other! Every holiday seems to include either a pie, bread, or treat of some sort.

They got started for a very simple reason “I enjoy working with food and being able to build relationships is what keeps it fun and enjoyable.” They took on the Lapps bakery in 2021 from Merv and Sue.

When it comes to working with other vendors at the farmers market they sometimes partner with Red Acres and Redmans Farms. Their favorite product is the peanut butter cream pie but Ruthanne’s favorite is banana cream pie - not sure how to pick just one!

This Weeks Vendor Spotlight: Galena Blooms

They specialize in locally grown bouquets, vase arrangements, herbs, bulk cut flowers and a full line of body care products made on our farm, including numerous soaps. Don got started in this adventure because they had the land and “We believe in serious Flower Power.” Not one to do what everyone else does, Don stands by his product being super fresh, a little outside the norm of roses and babies breath and lots of education to explain why things work the way they do when it comes to flowers.

Their favorite product at the farmers market? Our make-your-own-bouquet station. “We love seeing what our customers put together. It also features "the lucky flower of the day" in one of the buckets. If you add the lucky flower to a make-your-own, you win a free bar of soap!” A little behind the scenes on the farm is that they have started making Turmeric soap recently, it has become quite popular and has numerous health benefits.

Sharing a little love for one of our long time vendors this week! This multigenerational family farm has been a vendor at farmers market literally since it started - for over 30 YEARS Redman farms has been at the Chestertown Farmers Market. They specialize in growing all their own produce and flowers, literally from seed to your table (yes including all their flowers too!)

You may know them from their stand near Route 20 in between Chestertown and Rock Hall but their favorite thing to grow? Their Bakers Lane sweet corn. Some of the best parts of summer are gathering at the table to eat sweet corn that is just right out of the field!
The best part of farm life for Timmy and Cathy? In their words: “Being directly involved in every step of production gives me a firsthand understanding of the challenges farmers face and the standards our market represents.”
