Big Dawgs gotta met Highland Cows 🐂

And luckily, that’s what we offer 👏

Here at Running W Farm in Chestertown, Maryland, we have been raising Highland Cattle since 2008, and last summer, we decided to open our barn doors and welcome people to meet our cows 🤩

We currently offer two sessions types 👇

🐮Meet the Moos🐮
1 hour session for your group of 1-6 people to meet a few of our Highlands up close and personal! You’ll be able to spend the hour brushing, feeding, and learning about our cows!

🛻Coos & Views🛻
This 1.5-2hr sessions for groups of 1-5 people offers everything from our Meet the Moos session, with the addition of an ATV ride around our 75 acre property in the scenic countryside. The session finishes with a ride through the pasture to see and feed our full grown cows!

All sessions are by appointment only, due to our busy schedules, we are not able to accommodate pop ins 🫶

Connections>Competition 🤝

Only a couple more days until we see everyone at the 76th annual American Highland Cattle Association National Gathering, so we thought there’d be no better time to make this post 🙌

We’ve seen all the time, in and out of shows, high tensions from farms that don’t get along. Whether an animal placed over another, they both sell beef, sell cattle in the same region, etc.. The idea of being “the best in the business” can get in the way of one of the most important parts of being “one of the greats”, making great connections in the industry 👈

So what are we going to do? Well we’re gonna list ten farms that have been some of our biggest supporters, whether it’s giving advice, trusting us to help them, or just providing a listening ear when needed 🫂

We’re challenging you to share a few farms that have been important in your journey, whether they have a social media account to tag or not 🫵

How to see HIGHLAND COWS in July 🐂

Buckle up, July is always one of our busiest months of the year with the Highlands, keep reading to see how you can meet the cows this July (and our earliest August event)

🧒Talbot County Fair Children’s Day, July 9th
We will have some of our Highlands at the Talbot County Fair for their Children’s Day activities 9am-12pm! Since Casey is working at the fair for her internship, the cattle will stay most of the day! The fair is open to the public 4pm-8pm, but don’t be shocked if we roll out with the trailer a little bit earlier than 8pm!

🍀Kent County Fair, July 15th-18th
We are absolutely bringing the cows to our hometown fair, the Kent County Fair! We will have Paris and Mac there for the entirety of the fair, and will have two more come in for the open beef show July 17th! Be sure to stop by and see our 4-H kids at the fair!

🎡August 1st & 2nd, York State Fair
You may think we’re crazy putting us through the fairs in less than a month, and we probably are! But anyways, we will have some of our Highlands competing at the Highland Show at the York State Fair August 2nd, we will be arriving in the afternoon August 1st!

And of course, in the very little spare time we have, we are now booking private farm visits for July! Book a Meet the Moos Session for 1-6 people to spend 1 hour with 4-5 of our friendly Highlands, spending time brushing, feeding and learning about the cows! You can also upgrade to a Coos & Views Session for 1-5 people to enjoy everything the Meet the Moos Session has to offer, with the addition of an ATV rides around our 75 acre property in the scenic countryside of Chestertown, MD, and finish the experience off with a. Ride through our breeding herd pasture to see and feed treats to our full grown cows!

We always have fun naming the cows 🤩

We’re letting everyone know now to start thinking of name suggestions for this years calves! Last year calving season started in August, so we are coming closer and closer to that first baby popping out 🐂

This years theme is of course AMERICA for America 250! We want to hear all the suggestions, whether it’s American historical figures, landmarks, or terms to scream America, we want to hear them 🇺🇸
