It’s peony blooming season! These two beautiful ladies contrast each other perfectly! Festiva Maxima is a white double peony with raspberry red flecks on the petals. Scarlet O’Hara is a bright red/dark pink with a beautiful yellow center. They make beautiful bouquets and smell absolutely wonderful! The first picture is my Apple Watch to see how big one of these white peonies get. They are stunning and so fragrant! Enjoy the bloom!

🧵💈When growing dahlias, you need to stake them or have them in some netting to support their big ole stems and flowers. Yesterday, I took some time to do a little weeding, pulled off the bottom leaves to help reduce potential diseases and tie up some of the bigger stalks with twine. If you are growing dahlias, take a look and make sure you are starting to stake n twine once they start to grow taller to support them for wind and heavy rains so the stem doesn’t flop and break. I also threw some extra dirt on top of some of them as watering sometimes will wear away some of the top soil and compost. Happy growing season all! Pics of my helper guard dog Maggie as well. 😁

This my friends is what my dahlias look like after planting. First pic was when I planted on May 16th, second pic was from today, June 3rd. Crazy how much they’ve already grown and some have not even sprouted yet, but always be patient as some are more stubborn to sprout than others. I use tall stakes and twine to tie them to as they grow into beautiful monstrous plants! I’m going to try a patch in the big garden this year with some t posts and netting. Stay tuned for that once I’m done. Every day is a blessing that I get to put my hands in dirt.

All my dahlia people the time has come! It looks as though we are frost free finally and can plant in the ground! I’d wait til after these next 3 days of rain before tossing your potato babies in the ground. Plant about 6” deep, throw some compost in hole, and put a stake in the ground next to them to stake them up as they grow. It’s finally here!!! I’ll be planting mine this weekend. Let the games begin!!
