Easy homemade Vanilla Extract!

Ingredient
- 4-6 vanilla bean pods (grade B* preferred)
- 250ml alcohol 35-40% (eg.Vodka, dark rum,
bourbon)

Directions:
-Split bean in half and split bean length wise
exposing the beans inside (do not scrape out)
-Place beans and alcohol into glad container with
air tight lid.
-Seal and store in dark cupboard (away from
sunlight)
-Shake once a week and wait patiently

6 weeks- usable
3 months- balanced flavors
6 months- bakery quality

Store at room temperature away from light for 5-10 years. Flavour improves with age.

*Grade B beans gives a stronger aroma

Different alcohols can enhance and change the flavors.
Vodka- most neutral
Rum- can make it smooth, rich, sweet
Bourbon- more complex, deep flavors
Brandy- unique, heavier flavor
