Oct 24 (Reuters) - Current climate policies will result in global warming of more than 3 degrees Celsius (5.4 degrees Fahrenheit) by the end of the century, according to a United Nations report on Thursday, more than twice the rise agreed to nearly a decade ago."

[btw, that's 20% increase over pre-ind average, and, over land that increase could easily be double the average. I also wonder if they have taken into account that the oceans, 70% of earth surface, are not able to absorb as much heat.]

Farmers sound the alarm for our global food supply as staple crop [the potato] becomes increasingly difficult to grow.

“”The crop is sensitive to weather conditions,” Bob Leiby, an agronomist with the Pennsylvania Co-Operative Potato Growers, explained. He estimated that in the 1980s, there were 35 nights per year that were too hot for the potato crops. Now, it’s closer to 50 nights per year.”

Potatoes need cool nights to grow, and in Pennsylvania, those nights are becoming few and far between.

“We’re actually seeing that this next generation might be the first generation to … have a shorter lifespan than their parents due to nutrition and lifestyle factors.” A nutritious diet boosts children’s mental well-being, behavior, and academic performance, says Muhlstein, a nutritionist and instructor of “Raising Balanced Eaters.” While cutting ultra-processed foods entirely is unrealistic, Muhlstein advocates for reversing the typical 70/30 ratio of processed to whole foods, recommending an “80/20 rule”—80% whole foods like eggs, fish, and vegetables, and 20% indulgent foods like chips and ice cream.

Climate Week/NYC September 22-29, 2024, is underway and expects 100,000 attendees for cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and expensive rooms in NYC’s ultra-expensive hotels amidst breast-pounding speeches and promises to fix civilizations’ biggest threat to continued existence. For over 30 years, climate change conference commitments to do something constructive have been embarrassing flops.

I think this essay reflects the European version what is happening here too: the corporatization and consolidation of food production, with smaller operators squeezed out, or 'indentured' like the chicken and egg producers in the US (thankfully we have a couple sectors protected by supply management).

"Selling grain, meat, dairy products and everything that is produced in the countryside seems to be no longer an attractive business in Europe. Since 2022, protests for change have been taking place in all parts of the European continent. From Poland to France, no European farmer is happy to see his products being replaced on the market by massive quantities of cheap Ukrainian agricultural items. '

A source that I trust gives his short list of his trusted sources.
As a climate reporter, I am surrounded by countless thousands of articles, websites, videos, books and authors who are willing to lie to me (and you) about climate change.

I can give you only a very short list of sources that are able and willing to tell us the truth.

Here are the other sources, in the order in which I discovered them.

Planet of the Humans, the documentary. Available free on YouTube.

Max Blumenthal’s 9,000 word article: ‘Green’ billionaires behind professional activist network that led suppression of ‘Planet of the Humans’ documentary /thegrayzone.---/2020/09/07/green-billionaires-planet-of-the-humans/

Green Illusions, by Ozzie Zehner.

Bright Green Lies, by Derrick Jensen, Lierre Keith and Max Wilbert. An excellent book explaining the lies supporting the move toward renewable energy.

Physicist Tom Murphy of University of California, San Diego. ://dothemath.ucsd.edu/2022/09/death-by-hockey-sticks/

Addressing Climate Change Will Not “Save the Planet” by Christopher Ketcham, The Intercept theintercept.---/2022/12/03/climate-biodiversity-green-energy/

The sources I named above are sufficiently clear eyed and not compromised by their allegiance to corporate funders and sponsors.

I am happy to have discovered another author to add to this very short list. That is Jem Bendell, author of Breaking Together.

In chapter 4, Bendell discusses the collapse of our biosphere.

The problem, in brief, is gross overuse of planetary resources. All countries that score high in the United Nations' Human Development

My favorite independent reporters are: Matt Taibbi, Chris Hedges, Abby Martin, Katie Halper, Max Blumenthal, Aaron Mate, Jimmy Dore, Garland Nixon and Scott Ritter, plus authors such as Vandana Shiva and Noam Chomsky.

Note well: None of the above (except Vandana Shiva) are environmental reporters.
If you want to know how the media really works, please read Manufacturing Consent (1988) by Noam Chomsky and/or Hate, Inc. (2021 by Matt Taibbi. Or just get your info from people who tell you the truth so you can distinguish truth from lies.

Here is the sad truth. The reporters listed above are victim to the prevalent environmental lies, such as the efficacy and viability of the so-called energy transition, i.e., the transition to solar, wind and EVs. They won’t know the truth unless we reach them. The only way we can reach them is to build our own audience. To do that, we have to take communication seriously. If we do that then we can expand exponentially, but not otherwise.
