Alba Cheese is the proud manufacturer of the finest quality, award winning, traditional Italian dairy cheeses. The company was established in 1982, when brothers Mario and Gaetano opened their first factory in Melbourne. The brothers grew up in a small dairy farming village Sortino, Italy where they learned the traditional secrets for making the finest dairy cheeses. With this expertise, and from

humble beginnings with only a handful of employees, Alba Cheese has expanded rapidly, and is now a leading supplier to the retail and export markets.
“Alba” is Italian for “Dawn”, perfect to describe the freshness and naturalness of the company’s delicious range of cheeses.

Alba Cheese has once again proven its place among Australia’s top dairy producers, taking home an impressive 6 gold and 7 silver medals at the 2025 Australian Dairy Awards, along with the prestigious Gold and Silver Champion Cheese Maker titles. The recognition didn’t stop there Alba also claimed 6 gold and 7 silver medals at the DIAA Victorian Dairy Awards and recently added nine more accolades at the Royal Queensland Dairy Awards.
These achievements are a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship of Mario and Gaetano Bongiorno, whose passion for traditional cheesemaking continues to define the company.
