Today's the Plant Palooza! The weather is clearing and it's a perfect week for planting. IT IS TIME. Prime planting season is here in Central Maine and your farmers are ready to help! This week at market we’ll have the biggest, most varied selection of plants for sale. Farmers will be on hand to help you plan your garden, answer all your questions, and bestow their decades of professional expertise.

This plant list is just general availability—you’ll find all this and more, and multiple varieties of each type of plant listed! These are tried-and-true varieties that your farmers use for their own production, as well as specialty types that you simply won’t find anywhere else. We are a producer-only market, which means these plants have been under the same farmers’ care their whole little lives, ensuring they’re in the best shape to thrive in your garden or planter.

Do you shop with SNAP/EBT? You can spend it at the farmers’ market on any grocery food, and when you do, you earn bonus Maine Harvest Bucks. Harvest Bucks can be spent on fresh fruit and vegetables, and seedlings to grow your own food! This helps you stretch your dollar even when you’re on a limited budget.

Grilling this weekend? Take your burger up a notch with great ingredients from the farmers’ market!
Try:
Arkeo Farm ground beef
Bread & butter pickles and maple mustard from Bemis Family Farm
Grilled mushrooms from Community Mushroom Farm
Crisp spring greens from Seven Moon Farm or Snakeroot Organic Farm
Fresh green garlic from Junction Garden, sliced into slivers
All together on a ciabatta roll from Vesper Bread

Once your burgers come off the grill, lay down some foil, rinse and coat some rhubarb stalks in sugar, and use the remaining heat to cook them! Makes for great compote, crumble, or pie filling.

Thursday is market day! See you in Head of Falls from 2pm-6pm!

Have you met our new vendor, Georges Road Farm ? They are a small chicken and goat farm in Orland, Maine, and they make freeze-dried pet treats, with all local meat! They work with other Maine farms to use up parts of the animal that farmers wouldn’t otherwise be selling, and create recipes that dogs and cats go nuts for. Stop by when you’re at market on Thursday and find something new for your furry friends to try!

From George’s Road: “Committed to quality, community, and the wellness of our pets, we aim to craft wholesome and flavorful treats that not only nourish pets but also promote a circular economy within our local farming community. Georges Road Farm is dedicated to providing pets with the finest treats while fostering a sustainable, interconnected ecosystem that benefits both our furry friends and the farmers who cultivate our ingredients.”

Thank you to all who visited the farmers’ market yesterday! We LOVE being a part of your weekly routine. We were lucky to miss the downpour, but any rainy days are a great reminder that we can depend on each other, be the weather fair or foul. We’ll gladly keep showing up to feed you as long as you keep showing up to eat! Hope you get to make some great meals this weekend.

We took a break from planning this year's festival to pop over to Head of Falls for the Downtown Waterville Farmers Market. We couldn't help but rep this year's tote bags for a little viral marketing.

Here’s something you won’t find at just any farmers’ market: seedlings to start your own dye garden! Junction Garden is unique in that they not only raise their own wool, they also raise the plants they use to dye it! We know you love local, natural, farm-grown food, why not local color, too? Eileen also teaches natural dyeing workshops on the farm in Vassalboro! Stop by her booth on Thursday to peruse her wares and pick up a flyer about the upcoming Maine Fiber Circuit events.

If you’ve read this far, you may be a fiber and textile enthusiast. Try your hand at natural dyeing with plants you grow from these seedlings—find everything from indigo and weld to coreopsis and madder. See you this Thursday afternoon in Head of Falls, 2pm-6pm!
