🌳 More trees and shrubs are taking root across the Capital Region this week!

In Cohoes, we continued planting along the 787 Pedestrian Walkway with help from 30 Cohoes High School students. Together, we planted native trees and shrubs to add greenery along the path and provide edible berries for the community to forage.

We also planted more than 30 street trees this week through our Free Street Tree Program in Albany, Menands, Watervliet, and Troy.

Next week: 81 additional street trees in Mechanicville!

Thank you, Cohoes City School District!

Every week, our Squash Hunger program partners with local organizations to get healthy food to communities across the Capital Region.

Last Friday, StreetSoldiers - Schenectady stopped by Capital Roots to pick up eggs, potatoes, collard greens and more for their weekly Sunday pop-up at 153 Nott Terrace in Schenectady, where they provide food and other necessities to community members.

We’re grateful to work alongside organizations like Street Soldiers to help get fresh food where it’s needed most.

🌳 This fall, Capital Roots’ Urban Forestry team is planting 147 trees across the Capital Region to help communities grow greener, healthier neighborhoods.

In Mechanicville, we'll plant 73 trees around the city where they will provide shade, support wildlife, and create opportunities for community learning.

We’re also celebrating one of the biggest years for the Free Street Tree Program! More than 40 trees are planned through the program this season. Did you know residents and businesses in eligible areas can apply for a free tree planting?

Our Produce Project students from Troy High School are helping nourish communities across the Capital Region!

Last week, they teamed up with our Squash Hunger team to prepare packages of fresh, local produce for food pantries and community organizations throughout the region. The experience also helps students build connections with their communities as they prepare for life after high school.
