A deep dive on caring for our hardy garden mums. Yes, they can overwinter and come back in the spring. However, there are several factors that are key to their success.

🌼It’s best to plant the mum in early fall so the roots have time to establish.
🌼Plant in soil that is well draining.
🌼Keep mums watered.
🌼After a hard frost, leave the dead foliage for the winter and heap leaf mulch around the base of the plant to protect the roots. 🌼Cut back dead shoots in the spring when green foliage appears at the base of the plant.

If you miss early fall planting or prefer to use them as porch pots, you can still try storing them in a cool dark place like a garage for the winter. Water sparingly to keep roots damp and plant in spring.

We have a great selection of mums in 9” pots just now blooming. $10 each or 4 for $36. Colors available are yellow, orange, red, purple and gold. Come see us!!!

Our self-serve farm stand is open daily 8am-8pm! Located at 3711 Leonard Road between gate 2&3 in Painted Hills. Here’s all the goodies available:
