Whew! The final 3,400 tulips went in the ground this morning, despite the frosty fields. Here's hoping the 10,000 bulbs have a nice, cool rest and spring forth with exuberance as the snow melts months from now!

It only took an hour to thaw the hoses so salad processing could commence but it was worth it! 107 bags later, Save U More is fully restocked!!

Today I harvested over 100 pounds of salad greens in one and a half hours. There’s a hard freeze coming and I couldn’t stand the thought that this tunnel full of perfect salad might get frosted. We will keep it in our walk in cooler with a heater at night to make sure it stays just the right temperature and bring it to market over the next week or so. We planted these beauties back in August, the sweet spot up here in Alaska if you want to get a full-size head before you harvest. I’d say we nailed it this year because this stuff is gorg! !

Homer folks, we spent this gloriously sunny day harvesting from our outdoor fields for the last time and have a pile of salad, lettuce, chard, kale, and some super-fresh honeycrisp apples to share tomorrow at the Homer Farmer's Market starting at 10 a.m.

This will also be our rockstar farm lead Jillian's last week in town and she'll be holding down the farmstand tomorrow, so if you see her, bid her safe travels back down the Alcan. Her contributions to the farm this season can't be understated and we hope she circles back around.

Not sure if we'll be at the stand next weekend - there are those little lacy things in the forecast and we already got snowed on for the first market this year - probably not looking to close out the year that way, but we should have salad at Save U More through the beginning of November if things go according to plan.

Never a dull moment on the farm even in the fall. These two bull moose are waiting for a cow to come out of my high tunnel… Yes, the door was left open… Where she very delicately munched some kale and then moved on. I snuck down in my truck and was able to get the door closed. Hopefully, they move their ménage a Trois off to another more secluded setting soon.

Today was part one of planting 10,000 tulip bulbs - Jillian and I experienced everything a typical October day in Southcentral Alaska has to offer in the two hours we spent putting these bulbs to bed for the winter - sweet, warm sunshine, moody clouds, rain and a few solid-feeling pellets. But our future farming selves will thank us for the effort next spring when we have beautiful blooms to share with Homer!
