Day #2. The swarm was not as “In The Pocket” as I thought. The cluster remained outside of the box overnight. I hung out with it this afternoon and as the bees slightly parted I caught a flash of some beautiful white comb they were building on the OUTSIDE of the swarm box. I coaxed them to another box underneath by holding up a frame of honey which appealed to about half of the cluster. On the frame and in the 2nd box they went and remained. When the bees started fanning on the top of the second swarm box 30 minutes later I figured “success,” but we’ll see.

Some swarm right in the pocket. Greetings, Earthlings.

Join Us 5/20/26 5:30PM at the Heermance Memorial Library in Coxsackie, NY. “To Be With the Bees” puts many perspectives on the screen about our relationships in the living world…some interests dictated by learning to observe the being in its own right and others shaped by material understanding of production. Is there a True picture which has endurance? Puzzle pieces are spread out on the table thanks to difficulties and hardships experienced by many. Can we consciously arrive at something greater than the thinking which created the problems? In the instance of bees, after circa 200 years of commercial manipulations, we find ourselbes and the natural world NOT in a “better” or “stronger” place. The same is said of commercial agriculture and monoculture. What is the better place and can we do this as sovereign beings who give a damn? The process of hearing many voices, as this film presents in a grand sweep of opinions, seems the way. Experience counts. Let’s hear it! We are all the teachers and all the students! Join us at the Heermance Memorial Library 5:30 pm 5/20/26.

It’s been a couple of “interesting” swarm days. Here are a couple that looked like an ideal catch. It had other plans. In the hive it went. Outta the hive it went. Settled in a tall evergreen overnight and still undecided… hopefully about the 3 swarm traps and two empty hives for the picking. Actually held the Queen…a small black unmated Queen the coloring of which I had not seen before in a hive. It was so much easier last year when I had done less reading on swarms.
