I have a new love. Please don't tell Kevin. Actually, he already knows, and he loves her, too. This is Lisianthus Falda in her swoon worthy colors of apricot and salmon. The buttercream yellow is just as lovely, but hard to get. The luscious colors make up for the fewer yet ruffly petals. If you bought flowers from us last weekend, you probably had these in your bouquets. Now we are letting them rest and are hopeful for another flush in the coming weeks.

These adorable girls came all the way from Louisiana to visit The Flower Haus! Perhaps that’s a stretch. They did both of those things but they came to visit their dad who is working on a turnaround. Their mom is a budding photographer, and does a wonderful job.

I had to laugh when I overheard them taking pictures. Girls, put your hands in your lap. Okay put your hands in your own lap. Anyone been there before?

Just like clockwork, we had Mother’s Day weekend, and THEN the Lisianthus started coming out of hibernation. Several of you asked to be on our waiting list, so we will be getting back with you after our Thursday evening high school graduation of our grandson Mason.

We gained some new followers recently, and we appreciate all of you. We would love to have you sign up for our email, so much so we want to make it worth something. Starting in June, we will give three bouquets away in random drawings of people on our list. The first one will be of people who already receive it. Loyalty should get you something. Then we will have a drawing for new subscribers. The third one will be for people who might have some encouraging words here for others to sign up. No flowery language required – pun intended. Just a few words, like “do it”, or “it’s worth it”. We will get teary eyed if someone says “we love it”. This gives our current peeps an extra chance to win. We hope you will all agree that it’s more informative and fun than anything else.

Our website is below. Just scroll down a bit and sign up! We have one coming out soon. We will announce winners in June.

Happy Mother’s Day from The Flower Haus at Grounded in Bay City. We wish for you to have a wonderful day.

We especially wish a great day for our beautiful daughters Whitney and Blake. If our almost all adult grandchildren are any indication, they are amazing mothers.

And a very happy first Mother’s Day to Sophia, mother of our great granddaughter Navy. We spent time with them on Friday, and she is becoming a wonderful mother of a precious baby as well.

If we can change our clocks an hour twice a year, can we please move Mother’s Day one week further out? We have lisianthus and we have been cutting them, but we have hundreds of stems that are on the verge of a small explosion. If you want a gift in hand for your mom then we have wonderful florists in Bay City that have beautiful flowers that we can’t grow, in wonderful, artful designs. But if you or your mom would be happy to wait for a bouquet of blooms grown here, stubborn as they are, we will have them in the next week or two. These pictures are very similar but both so pretty I couldn’t choose just one.

Thanks to everyone who has requested flowers. Further requests will have to be put on a waiting list. Please text us at 979-240-8216.

We provided flowers today for a private event. We provided the majority of the flowers from our farm. Our daughter Whitney did all the setup and added the sparkle.

Come on and ring those bells! No, not Christmas bells. Bell flowers, or campanulas. We have grown them before from seed and were able to get a few plants. This year we bought plugs. We checked the technical sheets from the growers, and they said do NOT pinch (cut back the first stems to create more but shorter stems). Moral of our plug story for the year is when you live in Texas, don’t take growing advice from someone in Vermont. We are cutting stems approaching 4 feet tall. These pictures were taken after we trimmed them enough to contain them in a bucket. But they are gorgeous by themselves and in bouquets.

We seem to be doing everything a tad bit past due this year. Perhaps it’s too late for Easter eggs. But they were so beautiful this time, I finally took some pictures just before they got tossed.

Almost every year since I was a child we have dyed eggs with the standard Paas dye kit, but with a twist. With social media there are now numerous things to try, and one of them this year had good results. Paas upped their game with a kit that has disposable plastic cups. It is hard to come up with enough small cups for the dye, and it is a sizable mess to clean up.

Nothing will ever come close to the Paas technique that my mother Bobbie started at least 60 years ago. They are the ones that are marbled. The speckled ones were the new technique. If you would like to know how to do either, let me know and I’ll share. The final pictures are just the eggs in the cartons. My son in law took quite the care to arrange them by color, so I captured them that way. Crossing my fingers on the videos. The second much better one was done by Mason.

Another thing that made these so special were the wide range of artistes that created these beauties. Four of our grandchildren were here and three significant others, along with Blake, Jamon, Kevin and me. And I got to hold our very special guest baby Navy for her first observance of the family ritual. The rest of our family save one was here over the Easter weekend. Sadly our egg hunt got rained out before everyone dispersed to go home.

Itty Bitty’s are back! We trudged over this morning and found a few more tiny stems. Although they are similar, none of them are quite the same. That is the fun of it! We now have bouquets in all sizes back in The Haus.

We were asked about some pictures of the Itty Bitty’s. We took a few with these in a tiny vase. They are likely larger in these photos that in real life. For comparison, there is one of them beside our $10 bouquets. Lastly, there is one of all three sizes from The Flower Haus.

We promise we are not trying to make money off our short stems. We are trying to make flowers more accessible. It is actually more work to cut short stems, and we often leave them in the field. But when we have some, we will make them available.

We have a lot of planting to do before it rains, so it will be difficult to reserve flowers today. We have a lot so please come choose your favorites.

Itty bitty things are just so darned cute. In honor of our newest little one, Miss Navy Rayne, and everyone else diminutive, we have a new little offering today – Itty Bitty’s. And when we say new, we mean as in just thought of it this morning. Kevin had to make a sign on a sticky note.

Some flowers have to be cut continuously until they produce longer stems. Let’s use them! These small gatherings of Spring freshness are only $5. Perhaps you have some little girls that would love to have their own bouquets. Or maybe you need a gift for a child (defined as 0 to 99 years old), even if it’s you! See the last photo.

We also have plenty of regular bouquets. Each of them has either a pink or purple campanula, or bell flower. We encourage you to come shopping. If we run out, we will do it again tomorrow.

Thanks everyone. These bouquets are all taken now. Thanks to Kevin for managing. All the beautiful girls in my family are headed to Lockhart to my niece’s baby shower. Even baby Navy! After many years of trying she is finally getting to have a baby.

We have an amazing deal for you today. We did an experiment, and you are the winner. Our daughter Whitney needed flowers for an event. Sadly, our ranunculus have breathed their last breath for the year. We decided to tag along with her and bought some ranunculus for a trial.

Well, they are gorgeous. And for you, today only, they are free. We made some truly pretty springtime bouquets, and THEN we added the ranunculus. Why would we give away something we had to pay for? We didn’t grow these flowers. So we have no idea how well they will perform. They could last two weeks, or die tomorrow. If that happens, you still get to keep the rest of our flowers. Please don’t say we wish YOU could grow them this big. We are already thinking that, but these are a variety we have tried that don’t do so well here. And we won’t be doing this again unless someone wants them for a special occasion and is willing to pay (a LOT) for them.

We have several $10 bouquets with a burgundy ranunculus. The $20 bouquets have three pink ones. They also each have a stem of campanula that will have multiple bell-shaped flowers that will open. Two are purple and one is white.

We have on grand poohbah bouquet. Along with the eryngium and campanulas, there are five pink ranunculus. If you need flowers for something and someone special, this one is the ticket. It’s beautiful.

Don’t miss out on this special deal. It’s a great one.
