Local Producer Spotlight!
Piece & Freedom Bakery, Ames, IA.

This week, the co-op started carrying breads baked locally by Piece and Freedom Bakery to complement our house-baked bread selection. These include French Country Rounds, Gouda & Green Onion Sourdough, and Buckwheat Sourdough. They will be delivering loaves twice a week, so look for their breads on the bakery shelves.

At the co-op we love connecting our members and shoppers with the people behind the food they enjoy, so we asked Shalika of Piece & Freedom to share stories, traditions, and the care that is baked into every local loaf and pastry.

Halloween Fun at the Co-op!
Trick-or-Treat with us Saturday, Oct. 31, from 11am–1pm
Bring the kiddos in their best costumes for a morning of treats, smiles, and spooky fun. We’ll have trick-or-treat stations throughout the store, costumes encouraged for kids and grown-ups alike! 🎃👻🦇

We extend a big shoutout to everyone who chipped in by rounding up your purchases and donating your extra change last month. Together we raised $2,629 for Food at First!

This local nonprofit that provides free meals and groceries to anyone who is hungry, no questions asked. serves a hot meal every day of the year. In fact, they haven’t missed a meal in over 21 years! Almost all of the food comes from donations and rescued surplus from grocery stores, restaurants, and ISU, helping both people and the planet by reducing food waste.

The votes are in! We are excited to welcome Alex Ludolph and Anand Balasubramanian to the Board, and happy to welcome back re-elected Sarah S. Davis. We had an incredible group of strong candidates this year and are so grateful to them for their willingness to step up to run and serve our co-op community.

We also welcome Sophie Krivograd and Ava Waitek as our 2026-27 Student Board Members.
