CLOSED: Sun/Mon For your dinner, weekend BBQ, lush or laid back Christmas or simply to indulge a carnivorous craving we have a range of quality fresh meat and Akaroa salmon, manuka smoked ham and bacon and charcuterie. Our fresh gluten and preservative free sausages are made weekly on site by butchers Brendan and Ben and you'll often smell hams and bacon being smoked as you wander Rue Lavaud. For a platter, picnic or nibble we have a range of local and European cheeses, pates, pickles, olives, etc. as well as award winning local olive oils and sauces, pasta and meaty accompaniments…..and your everyday basics. Butchers pies and eggs.

We’re all enjoying the magical mystery tour of skills from our new French butcher Alexis ✨. We’ve let him loose this week and are eagerly learning what he can create (and then what results you prefer). With 11 years of butchering under his belt, we’re excited (instead of already tired 😅) about summer.
So on today’s menu - we have Alex’s Pork Terrine! Quite the treat with our fave local French A la baguette bread too!

And a reminder that we have lots of pizza, salmon, sausies, steaks, staples (pork mince today too), favourites and nibbly bits at the ready.
Generally the only way to cope with chilly weather … is to eat through it (sometimes works for me!)

Things are getting out of hand meat lovers! Alex 🇫🇷 suggested he whip up a “roti de porc orloff” (google translate has been busy 😂) and now you have the option of a rolled pork loin filled with cheese and pork and fennel salami - cut to size to mix up this wet Thursday.
We’re just running around behind him saying “Yes! Whatever you think is best Alex!” 😂 🙌

Yesterday we welcomed our new favourite person into the shop! 😅 Alexis; the smiling butcher from France 🇫🇷 gently entered the fray, schooled us on a different way to break down a lamb and promptly popped three new cuts for you into the window!
Today he’s breaking down pigs - so who knowwwwws what will result! 😍
While we research how on earth to price these cuts, you should swoop on in. All can be cut to size, portioned or you could cook whole.
We look forward to learning from this young but experienced butcher and T is walking on clouds with the extra help and ideas 💡

Well that was a busy idyllic long weekend community!
Now we can take a wee breath before Show Weekend and the fab Inside Out Akaroa on 21/22 Nov.
A GREAT way to have some down time would be to join in with the free Community BBQ and Picnic being hosted by the Akaroa Ratepayers Association at the BP Meats Site (that’s round near the Tiny Store/Butchery lawn) this coming POSTPONED TO FRIDAY 6th Nov.
An initiative to bring the community together on this valuable piece of public owned property.
Denis Brittenden will be providing some music and FENZ are joining in on the fun.

WE’RE OPEN 10 am - 2pm. 👍
A short window for you to top up and get back to enjoying your gorgeous long weekend in the bays 😍

We’re out of salmon and chicken but sausies were topped up yesterday, have got all the steaks (including those beautiful big ribeye on the bone), a tiny scattering of pizzas and alllllllll the delish nibbles and more at the ready.

It’ll be 2 pm sharp closing as we race to get out and enjoy our lovely home bays too.

The ol’girl is at the ready for your SCORCHER in the bays! Her inhabitants will be ready at 10 am (until 4 pm) too and T is about to launch into his “I’m a sausage machine” mode 👍
Starting to get light across salmon, Moroccan lamb rumps and unfortunately no fresh chicken thighs or breasts BUT a fleet of bbq butterflied chicks at the ready.
Best to come for pizzas this morning ✌️

She’ll be a busy wee village today, so hopefully everyone moves into “cruisy holiday” mode 👍

Open Sunday 10 am - 2 pm too and closed Mon/Tues

Hope you’re on your way!!! The bays are all a sparkle and the cowboy steaks don’t wait for no one 😜

Good stock of salmon, pizza, sausies, T’s ribs, butterflied lambs and chickens, burger patties etc but we’ll never know if our crystal ball has given us the right info on how much to make! So fingers crossed we have you covered when you need us this weekend.

We are stockkkkked up (for now!) and if I didn’t live in Akaroa …. I’d be pulling every excuse to start my holiday early today!!!

Gulp … my single most stressful job has arrived again, but for the 4th time I think my systems are in place! 😅

Again we are working with the expert team at Cured New Zealand to bring you beautiful Canterbury grown Christmas Hams.

Half Hams - $125 ea (approx 4-4.5 kg)
Whole Hams - $235 ea (approx 8-9 kg)

We had EXCELLENT feedback on these this year - but be warned, we will be capping numbers, so have a chat and pop your order in either in store or via email [email protected]

Please include full name, contact number and pick up date (if you know it). No deposit required, full payment on pick up.
