🍎 The British apple season is upon us! 🍏
Despite the challenges of this year’s hot, dry weather, the British apple and pear crop is looking remarkably good — and we’re now starting to see some wonderful local varieties arriving in the Farm Shop.
We currently have at least six varieties of Suffolk-grown apples and pears, with many more still to come as the season progresses.
And we keep the pricing nice and simple:
🍏 Every variety — apples and pears — £2.60/kg.
Depending on their size, that works out at roughly 20p–40p per apple.
They’re all sold loose, too, so you can buy one, six or twenty, mix and match the varieties, choose the exact fruit you want and take them home completely plastic-free.
I found myself scrolling through Tesco’s apple selection today and the comparison was rather fascinating.
Their range goes from little pre-packed Rosedene Farms apples at around 16p each, right through to considerably more expensive “Finest”, organic and premium varieties — each packaged, branded and priced differently.
But something else caught my attention.
“Rosedene Farms” isn’t actually the farm where those apples are grown. It’s a Tesco own-brand name.
Our apples have a rather simpler story.
📍 They come from Moat Farm in Kenton, Suffolk.
A real, family-run Suffolk orchard, where flavour is prioritised over perfect appearance and long supermarket shelf life.
The orchard grows familiar favourites alongside some wonderful traditional English varieties, including Cox, Russet, Gala, Charles Ross, Lord Lambourne, Melrose, James Grieve and D’Arcy Spice.
And whichever variety you fancy?
They’re all £2.60/kg.
No premium for a prettier apple.
No different price because one variety has a posher name.
No need for an invented farm brand to make them sound local.
They simply are local. 🍎🌳
