Welcome to Hawkes Farm! Located in Boneo on the Mornington Peninsula, Hawkes Farm Gate is a family run business that sells produce grown on site, as well as products from local growers. The aim of the store is to bring together great produce from around the Peninsula. A lot of our suppliers grow some of the best produce in Australia, but do not sell direct to the retail market. Our shop is a showc

ase of the magnificent work that the Peninsula growing community has to offer, and supplemented by the Melbourne Market so you can get just about everything you need here. We're open every day 8:00 – 5:00. Closed Christmas Day

πŸ‡πŸ·Making of the 2021 Vintage Tempranillo, launching this weekend at Hawkes Farm. The grapes came from a block in Tuerong – close to our paddocks.

There’s not much Tempranillo grown on the Peninsula - it was brought here in 1994, providing only small harvests that made for big flavours.

In Spanish, Tempranillo means little early one – the grapes ripen early for what is a big wine. The climate here suits early ripening beautifully.

The fourth most cultivated food in the world is a nutritional treasure, with a generous source of carbohydrate, fibre, Vit C, Vit B6 (for brain health, enhancing cognitive function) and potassium for cardiovascular harmony!

And don't peel them – even a spud's skin harbours high antioxidant power to help us age gracefully, promote a healthy digestive system and boost immune systems! It's Who knew?!

πŸ—“οΈ 6-7 JUNE SAVE THE DATE: Rhino Tiger Bear 2021 Vintage Tempranillo Launch at Hawkes Farm! 🍷

King's Birthday Weekend is also known on the Peninsula as Winter Wine Weekend.

Which is where we're fortunate to have our wonderful event partners Rhino Tiger Bear behind the Farm Bar!

And we're really in luck this year – Rhiannon and Owen are launching their 2021 Vintage Tempranillo at the Farm!

"Our love of Iberian Peninsula varietals like Tempranillo began on our Portuguese honeymoon," says Rhiannon.

"It's a lovely counterpart to the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir of the Mornington Peninsula."

"We harvested this Tempranillo in 2021, aged it in French oak for four years, and in bottle for six months."

It's a very approachable Gran Reserva-style Tempranillo, with a food friendly palate of dark cherry plum and toasted coconut. There are hints of to***co and allspice with a nice, settled acidity and fine, lingering tannins."

"This wine is fabulous with food. It's also really nice as an apΓ©ritif wine. It will age, but you can enjoy it right away as we have aged it for you!"

Saturday shares starting tomorrow 10am – 1pm! While Maker Markets take a break, Hawkes hero Andrea is spotlighting Farm suppliers with samples on offer outside our Farm market – so you can try before you buy and get to know our local champions better.

This Saturday between 10am and 1pm, Annette and Jodie from Heirloom Gourmet Foods will showcase their amazing drizzle range to complement meats, veggies or desserts – based on timeless Aussie classics.

"We have a similar collaborative philosophy in approach to food as Hawkes," says Mark, co-owner and co-founder of the Mother-Son business.

"... family-focus, value for money, versatility, integrity and quality produce. We love the Peninsula and all its locally-focused stores. We produce small-batch drizzles, so you won't find us in major grocery stores."

"This Saturday 10am – 1pm, my mum Annette (in her mid-80s!) and Jodie are offering tastings from our savoury and sweet range outside the Farm Market."

"My mum moved here 20 years ago from Melbourne where I grew up, and I joined her in the late twenty-tens after travelling and working in Cairo. Now we're based in Mornington – it's such a beautiful part of the world."

"It began in 2020 when Mum and I were talking about her Grandma Polly Fox over a roast (lamb of course). My Great-Grandmother – pictured in the middle above – ran a sheep station in rural Victoria with seven kids around her. Polly's love of cooking became legendary in the family and her handwritten recipes are a treasured reminder of a time gone by when ingredients came straight from the kitchen garden. We started making Grandma Polly’s mint drizzle – deep flavours, all natural ingredients, made in Australia with a proud Aussie heritage. The other flavours followed with the same vivid character and fresh, locally-sourced, sustainable ingredients."

"We're playing around with flavoured mayonnaise, which you can make yourself by combining our drizzle with quality mayo or aioli – think lemon, mango, mint mayo... they go really well with hot chips!"
