Most food today is grown for one thing. To look good on a shelf.

Not to taste good. Not to be good for you. Just to sell.

At Orchard Food we do it differently. We go straight to the farmers. We check everything. We only stock what we'd feed our own family.

Delivered to your door in Pretoria and JHB every week.

Did you know? Organic farms support significantly more insect species than conventional ones.

And before you say "but I don't like insects" — hear us out.

The insects thriving on organic farms aren't the ones gate-crashing your braai. They're the ones quietly keeping our entire food system alive.

The bees pollinating your fruit and vegetables.

The ladybirds eating the aphids so farmers don't need pesticides.

The beetles aerating the soil so roots can grow deep and strong.

The butterflies moving pollen from plant to plant so the next generation of food can grow.

Conventional farming uses pesticides that don't discriminate.

They kill the pests — and everything else along with them. Over time, the insect population collapses. And when insects disappear, the birds that eat them disappear too. And the plants that need them for pollination struggle. And the soil that depends on them for aeration gets harder and less fertile every season.

It's a chain reaction that happens slowly and quietly — until one day the damage is very hard to reverse.

Organic farming works differently.

By farming without synthetic pesticides and herbicides, organic farmers create space for natural ecosystems to exist alongside food production. Insects return. Birds return. Soil comes back to life. And the food that grows in that environment is richer, more nutritious, and more flavourful because of it.

At Orchard Food, we partner with local Gauteng farmers who farm this way — not because it's trendy, but because it's right.

Every order you place with us supports farmers who are choosing to do things differently. Farmers who are betting on nature instead of fighting it.

That's something worth supporting. 🌿

This is the first post in our Did You Know? series — every week we'll share a fact about organic farming that might just change the way you think about the food on your plate.

Save this one and share it with someone who'd find it interesting. 🌱

You know it before you can explain it.
The smell.
The weight.
The feeling that this food is different.

That’s not marketing.
That’s what happens when food is grown slowly, with care not engineered for shelves and shelf life.

Orchard Food exists for people who want to eat well
but don’t want food to be complicated, confusing, or full of second guesses.

We work closely with farmers
so you can open a box and feel confident about what you’re feeding yourself and your family.

If that sounds like you
you’re exactly who we do this for 🌱
