Justin, the Avo Dude

So here’s a brief history lesson about how Justin became the Avo Dude of Cape Town! Ok, well not quite yet Cape Town, for now it’s just Table View, but someday soon I will spread my avocado dudeness to all of the Mother City and beyond!

It all started early in 2018 when a friend and I were browsing the Cape Town market early one morning to see what was in stock and what bargains we could find. Of course being the main wholesale fresh produce market on the southernmost city of Africa, everything is cheaper than the shops, because that’s where the shops get their stock! We spotted an avo supplier and decided to get a 15kg bag and see if we could flog it to our work colleagues. Well of course we sold the whole lot in little bags of 5 avo’s at 20 bucks a pop in no time. That’s where Table View Avo’s was born. My friend and I built up our little business, supplying to the local community, friends, etc. As it grew we decided to work separately, running our own stock and sales but sharing customers.

But you see, I’m a person with a very busy mind, and quite entrepreneurial, so as our way of working the business began to differ I decided to split up with my friend and go fully independent. Sadly we broke up, but we have remained friends, while continuing with our own enterprises. I wish her well but I have big plans now!

So now we get to what “Justin the Avo Dude” is all about. This is now my thing, I have loads of ideas and thoughts of how I’d like this to go. Without giving away too many of my strategies to the competition before I’ve even tried them, my plan is to build a successful and profitable small business providing avocado’s and avo (and chilli) based products to the local community, growing my regular customer database through consistency in supply and quality, and building trusting relationships with my customers so the business grows through reputation and positive word of mouth. Eventually I hope to quit my mind numbing day job to work my own growing business full time and expand out of my immediate area into the rest of Cape Town and beyond. I’ve got a lot of ambition, it’s the lack of finances that always gets in the way. But this one I have a good feeling about! The passion and the motivation is there, now it’s a case of making it happen successfully!
