Zandam Italian Cheese Family-owned business making authentic Italian Cheese in the heart of the Cape W**elands since 1962. Crafting cheese runs deep in the family.

The Delle Donne Family have been expertly crafting Zandam Italian Cheese for more than half a century. The processes and recipes that are still used today have been handed down from mother, to daughter in law, to son. Mauro Delle Donne, the current owner of Zandam Italian Cheese, is a cheesemaker at heart. Having spent many years in the cheesery, learning from his mother Iolanda, Mauro still regularly travels to Italy to ensure that Zandam cheese remains authentically Italian in every sense. Zandam Italian cheese is also proudly South African. Through the years our recipes have been perfected for the South African palette and has played an important role in establishing a love for authentic Italian cuisine in South Africa. Today Zandam continues to make award winning cheeses of the highest quality. At Zandam there is no compromise for quality and service.

The 2026 batch is brewing away, and we can’t wait for the first crisp sip of our Famiglia Italian Pilsner. This ongoing collaboration between @ and has quickly become a delicious annual event.

We love it when someone has fun with our cheese.
Wagyu Wellington, Brûlée tomatoes, secret ingredient popcorn, deliberately burnt pizza cheese… a “Herzoggie” that would have the VLU clutching at their pearls and the very best classic cheese soufflé. (Yes. Soufflé. For 50 people. From one domestic oven.)

It's obvious that Hanroe Erasmus enjoyed himself as much as we did at our A Casa event in Pretoria.

For now, let’s talk about the popcorn…
Hanroe Erasmus rendered down Wagyu beef tallow and used it as the oil for the popcorn. (Genius!)

He added handfuls of Zandam Caciotta shavings to the hot popcorn to allow the cheese to melt through and add texture to the popcorn.

Finished with fresh rosemary and served in 100-year-old South African Linnware ceramic bowls. Because you don’t eat THIS out of a movie bucket.

One of the first lessons the Delle Donne family teaches is the value of hospitality.
Famiglia, togetherness, connection and authenticity run to the very heart of who we are.
Zandam Italian Cheese IS family.
We choose to build relationships with like-minded businesses, and we support the idea of real food, done good.

We spent this past Saturday at a beautiful private family home in Pretoria, being wined and dined by Ex Animo W**e Co. and Chef Hanroe Erasmus from Genade Shoppie, who showcased our authentic Italian cheese in every single dish he served.
Two Sisters Coffee Co. company kept the after-lunch espresso flowing with their delicious brews.
Hanroe even roped in assistance from an Onthoukok, Stephanie Grobbelaar, from the new Kokkedoor Klassiek series that will be airing on kykNET from the 5th of November 2026.

Zandam has a truly unique heritage.

Our name derives from the farm in the Western Cape where it all started. We might make AUTHENTICALLY ITALIAN cheese, but our land is named for a city in the Netherlands. And we kept it as a name, proud of our link to this stretch of land.
Tino, Mauro and Giovanna might speak impeccable English (AND Afrikaans!), but they are intrinsically connected to their Italian heritage and their beautiful mother tongue…not to mention having Delle Donne as a surname.

We are Zandam. We are Italian. We are South African.
But, most importantly, we are PROUD of it all!

We can finally share more details of our upcoming collaboration in Gauteng!
We searched high and low for the right venue and the right chef, and we’ve come up with the perfect combo.
Chef Hanroe Erasmus will be cooking up a fantastic feast at a warm and inviting family home in Pretoria.
His food, and this house all underscore our values of famiglia, connection and togetherness. This is a Homecoming.
Ex Animo W**e Co. will be bringing some of their best wines, perfectly paired with each course.
Here is a sneak peak of the menu and a few choice pics from a recent event at his personal venue Genade Shoppie Huiskombuis, to show just how spectacular a Hanroe feast can be.
