“Am I making enough milk?” is a worry many mothers carry quietly.

Understanding how milk supply works is a useful starting point. Having someone help you work through feeding difficulties matters too.

We’ve put this guide together to explain supply and demand, some factors that can affect milk production, and the everyday challenges around feeding and expressing.

Our community has grown to 3,500+ mothers supported, with 750+ testimonials shared. Behind those numbers are different journeys, questions and experiences that we continue to learn from. 💗

Have a look through the slides and share with a mother or family member. If you’re worried about your supply, speak to a qualified lactation professional for individual support.

A day in the life of a bakery owner 🍪🩷

Some days I’m the founder. Some days I’m in production. Some days I’m packing orders, checking stock, answering messages, following up with retailers and trying to remember the 17 other things I was supposed to do. 😂

Leaving my corporate career to build Keneilwe Lactations full-time has definitely given me a whole new definition of “busy”.

But seeing these cookies leave our bakery and make their way to breastfeeding moms across South Africa makes the long days worth it. 🩷

Come spend a day at the Keneilwe Lactations bakery with me.

How long can breast milk be stored? 🍼🩷

Here’s a simple guide to keep close:

• Up to 4 hours at room temperature
• Up to 4 days in the fridge
• About 6 months in the freezer is best
• Up to 24 hours in a cooler bag with frozen ice packs

Frozen breast milk can be thawed overnight in the fridge or using lukewarm water. Once fully thawed in the fridge, use it within 24 hours. Once it has been warmed or brought to room temperature, use it within 2 hours.

Never microwave breast milk or refreeze it once it has completely thawed.

Save this post or share it with a breastfeeding mama who may need it. 🍼🤱🏽🩷

This guidance applies to healthy, full-term babies. Premature, unwell or hospitalised babies may require different guidance from their healthcare team.
