This Friday, we’re psyched to welcome Candela with a line of soy candles hand-poured in Cincinnati!

“Candela” means “candle” in Dutch, and the business is an homage to owner Kara Himes’ Dutch heritage and to her hometown of Pella, Iowa, a community known for its Dutch immigrant roots and annual Tulip Time Festival.

Kara says, “I have two lovely grandmas (purebred Dutch) who both love coffee time and crafts, so naturally I’m all about hands-on creativity (and yes, I was drinking black coffee at 12 yrs old). Candle-making was next up on my craft list. What started as an affordable Christmas gift for family and friends is turning into a fun and creative outlet.”

A customer recently said, “My home smells AMAZING thanks to these lovely candles!! Couldn’t recommend them more!”

Welcome to our market, Kara!

This Friday we’re excited to welcome Cousins Maine Lobster - Cincinnati, OH to our market! This business was started in 2012 in LA by a couple of Mainers who were homesick for authentic lobster rolls. An appearance on Shark Tank yielded an investment by none other than real estate mogul Barbara Corcoran, resulting in exponential growth for the company.

Nowadays Cousins Maine Lobster boasts over 70 franchises, including a Cincinnati-based food truck that will make its appearance at Friday’s market.

We look forward to enjoying lobster rolls, grilled cheese, quesadillas, tacos, and tater tots, all made with fresh, sustainable lobster! Come hungry, as the offerings will also include clam chowder, lobster bisque and whoopie pie.

Fridays 4-7pm in the southeast corner of the Madison Rd. parking lot, local farmers, artisans and vendors will be selling fresh produce, breads, baked goods, handmade soaps, fine art, artisanal beverages, and more, against a backdrop of live music and adult beverages.

It’s only Wednesday, but our minds are already on Friday afternoon and our weekly farmers’ market!

This week, we’re excited to welcome Ekaterina Shestakova and her cottage bakery, Bread by Kat, featuring freshly baked, organic sourdough bread and assorted sourdough-baked goods including bagels, cookies and cinnamon rolls, all made in the quiet community of Sherwood Forest in Anderson Township.

A customer recently remarked, “Let me just say, I’ve bought several different sourdough loaves from a few different bakers and none of them compare to Kat’s! Kat’s bread really is the perfect sourdough! It has the smell with that tangy punch that we all love and enjoy.”

If that makes your taste buds tingle, plan to stop by our market 4-7pm on Friday in the southeast corner of the Madison Rd. parking lot. See you there!

Kei Iguchi has introduced East Walnut Hills to omusubi, a traditional Japanese snack or appetizer made of cooked white rice shaped into a triangle, wrapped in crispy nori (seaweed) and filled with savory ingredients that are organic and non-GMO whenever possible.

Omusubi by market vendor OMUSUBI is more than a rice ball. It’s a symbol of love, comfort and connection. For centuries, it has been a part of everyday life in Japan, carrying the warmth of the person who made it. According to Kei, it’s “designed to be held, made to be loved.”

Have you tried omusubi yet? We’d love to know your thoughts! If you haven’t yet tried this, what are you waiting for? Plan to stop by the southeast corner of the Madison Rd. parking lot 4-7pm on Friday for omusubi and other goods you can’t get anywhere else!
