HOW TO COOK TOCINO WITHOUT BURNING IT? π₯β€οΈ
Tocino is delicious, but because itβs sweet, the sugar can burn quickly.
π‘ THE BIG SECRET:
β Donβt start with high heat!
β
Water first β gentle cooking β caramelize slowly.
π₯ Cooking from frozen? No problem! Use the water method and low-medium-low heat. It usually takes about 10β15 minutes total.
Hereβs an easy step-by-step method:
STEP 1οΈβ£ Start with Water π§
Place tocino in a pan. Add about ΒΌ cup of water for every 8β12 oz of pork.
π Cooking frozen? Use up to Β½ cup water.
STEP 2οΈβ£ Cook Gently π₯
Cover and cook on low to medium-low heat for about 5β8 minutes.
Turn the tocino once or twice as it softens.
STEP 3οΈβ£ Let the Water Evaporate π¨
Once the water is almost gone, uncover the pan. The tocino will start releasing its fat and the marinade will begin to caramelize.
STEP 4οΈβ£ Lower the Heat & Turn Often π
Cook for another 2β4 minutes, turning frequently. This gives you those delicious golden, sticky, caramelized edges without burning them!
STEP 5οΈβ£ Check for Doneness π‘οΈ
For safety, pork should reach 145Β°F, then rest for at least 3 minutes.
STEP 6οΈβ£ Let It Rest & SERVE!
Let the tocino rest for 2β3 minutes, then serve with sinangag + itlog = TOSILOG! π³π
