He’s ba...aack! 🎃 After taking last week off, Farmer Kenny and Spruce Run Farm are headed back to the Brookmont Farm Market today, and he’s bringing something special with him: PUMPKINS!

The calendar may say September, but these beauties are here to officially usher us into Autumn. Whether you’re looking for a pumpkin to decorate the front porch, something to cook up in the kitchen, or simply an excuse to start embracing your inner basic pumpkin-loving self, you'll love our selection.

Kenny will have plenty of our other farm-grown favorites along for the ride, too, including Sweet Corn, Tomatoes, Sweet Potatoes, and lots of Autumn Squashes.

Behold, the mighty Acorn Squash in its native habitat: our front lawn!

Y’all know I just LOVE volunteer squash--a plant that grows on its own from a seed that was not purposely planted. There’s something especially fun about walking around and discovering what decided to grow where it absolutely was not intended.

This particular squash is a volunteer, so we’ll be enjoying this one roasted at home. However, if you’d like an Acorn Squash of your own, we’ve got plenty that we actually grew on purpose! You'll find those this week at the Brookmont Farm Market on Wednesday, Middletown Farmers' Market on Thursday, and Myersville Farmers' Market on Saturday.

Summer may be over, but sweet corn season isn't quite finished yet. We’ve got plenty of bi-color sweet corn for the Myersville Farmers' Market this morning. If you’re not familiar with bi-color corn, it’s exactly what it sounds like: an ear with both white and yellow kernels. We’re perfectly happy to keep Summer on the table a little longer.

We will be at the Brunswick Main Street Farmers Market today, and our Autumn Squash is ready to make its seasonal debut on your dinner table.

Acorns, Butternut, Delicata, and Honeynuts are available today, and are all excellent candidates for roasting, stuffing, soups, side dishes, or easy to prepare and simply making your kitchen smell like you know what you’re doing, even if you're winging it.

No ifs, ands, or butternuts. Buy our squashes!

Some people call them winter squash. Around here, we prefer Autumn Squash, because this is when we harvest them, bring them to market, and start craving all the hearty Fall dishes they’re made for.

Butternut is perfect for creamy soups, roasting and silky purées. Delicata has tender, edible skin and is especially good roasted in rings. Honeynut packs a whole lot of sweet, nutty flavor into a little package. Spaghetti Squash? Cook it up and it turns into its own delicious pile of squash “noodles.”

Different squash, different personalities, all ready to play a starring role on the dinner table.

Spruce Run Farm will have all your favorite Autumn Squashes at the Middletown Farmers' Market today, along with sweet potatoes. If your kitchen is ready for fall, we’ve got the vegetables to get you started.

A quick note for our Brookmont Farm Market market friends:

Unfortunately, Spruce Run Farm won’t be at the Market today. We’re sorry to miss you!

We’re already looking forward to being back next week and seeing everyone again. Thanks for understanding, and we’ll see you soon!

It was such a crazy busy week that I almost forgot to share our sunflowers.

Much later than we should have, we turned one of our raised beds into what may very well be the world’s smallest sunflower patch. This week, they finally started to bloom, and suddenly that little patch feels pretty special.

Located right at the bottom of our front steps, their sunny faces greet us when we pull into the driveway. This was actually the most successful attempt at growing sunflowers I’ve had in years, which has me motivated to do even more, and even better, next year.

On a dreary, rainy-ish morning like this one has been, I thought we could all use a little bit of that sunshine.

Don't be alarmed if you come to market today and this is what you see.

After a busy week, Farmer Kenny is looking forward to sitting back, enjoying the morning, and having a dog in his lap. Fancy from Butter's Breads is more than happy to oblige.

Meanwhile, Spruce Run Farm will have a pretty good selection of the season's produce, including Gala Apples, cukes, zukes, yellow squash, beets, potatoes, onions, green beans, tomatoes, sweet corn, sweet potatoes, and winter squash.

Something for the market bag, something for dinner, and hopefully a little time to just sit and enjoy the morning.

Thank you to friends old and new who came to see us at the Middletown Farmers' Market yesterday and helped us celebrate our 16th season there, being Vendor of the Week, and National Honey Month, too.

Thank you to everyone who listened to stories about how we got our start at the market, how Kenny got his start in beekeeping as a little kid, and, of course, the short story long version of why he’s currently on crutches.

We handed out nearly all of our baby bears of honey in just about the first 90 minutes, so clearly, you all came ready for a little honey!

We can’t wait to see you all tomorrow at the Myersville Farmers' Market, and then back in Middletown again next week.
