What’s homesteading like you say? Ohh, just waking up everyday trying to not let the animals take me out and keeping the goats from taking themselves out! Lol.

This left leg of mine…everyone seems to love it. #1 Liberty tried to take me out last year by heading into the feed room before me. Yes, I started in front but she quickly changed that! Now I have a permanent dent in my shin. #2 are bruises from trying to load pigs this week. We failed miserably and now I have bruises up my shin. #3 Rooster flogged me…some more bruises and blood at my ankle. He got to spend the rest of the afternoon under my armpit being reminded that we are not enemies.

This weekend was definitely farming at the farm! Sixteen baby chicks came out of the incubator. Ten went to a new home. We have 6 little babies left…and I’m okay with that. We fired up the incubator for a special order request. Extra eggs went in because we’d prefer to over deliver than not have enough. So here we are with 6 Americauna chicks…and I ain’t complaining. It’s simple chicken math. 🐥🐔🐓

Saturday night we also welcomed in the final kidding of the season. Bertha gave us two sweet babies! A little buck and doeling. She’s always been a good Mama for us but she’s told us she’s tired of all these babies! 🤣 She’ll enjoy her retired life now. That’s a wrap for this season! Thank goodness, because doing all that in the dead heat of summer would not be fun.

Projects were in full swing too! Water lines repaired, new lines ran into the chicken coop for easy maintenance, new feed room framed out, the roof installed, walk door and dog door installed on the new dog run. The old garden area was dismantled to move to a new location (quite the task in itself). More seeds were started for the garden 🪴, a flower bed was extended and the new compost pile was churned with lots of p**p courtesy of our chicken’s helping hands. It was a weekend! 👨🏻‍🌾🚜👩🏼‍🌾

Sixteen baby chicks! Incubating eggs is very much so addicting! Welcome littles into the world. 🐣🐣 Sometimes they need a tad bit of help (those dark eggs are hard to bust out of) but all doing well. Watching life grow and holding that little one half way out of its shell is the most amazing feeing! 🥰
