What is DPA?
DPA essentially serves as a storage reservoir for both DHA and EPA, able to convert to either EPA or DHA depending on your need. As dietary intake of DPA increases, the tissue levels of both DHA and EPA increase. Without question, DPA is equally as important as EPA and DHA in fish oils, and data suggests it is an absolutely required component of any fish oil supplement. For example, population-based trials have demonstrated that higher levels of DPA in human blood are associated with increased degrees of reported health benefits common to fish oil supplementation.
