Meet the People: Anika

Anika has been part of The Lakehouse Kitchen for about three months. She found her way here the way a lot of good things happen around here — a friend of Beau's told her about the place, and she came to see it for herself.

Her favorite food at the Lakehouse? No hesitation at all: the Lakehouse Club. (We asked her twice. Same answer.)

When she's not at the Lakehouse, Anika draws — horses, especially. And if it's your first visit, her advice puts her in good company with Kathy and Beau: order the Reuben.

Her favorite Lakehouse memory so far isn't one moment. It's "just having fun with everybody here. It's a home experience. It's very loving and welcoming."

Next time you're in, say hi to Anika at the counter.

Meet the People: Kathy, co-owner

Kathy has been part of The Lakehouse Kitchen since its inception — literally. She saw this building sitting empty and saw what it could be: "It meets two of my passions in life. One is making an ugly building pretty, and the other is being able to cook in it."

Her PhD is in building science, and it shows. That ceiling over your head when you eat here? Two months of work. The native lumber was so hard it snapped every screw they tried — two-inch brads were the only thing that would go through it. "It broke everything... it's that hard."

Her favorite food at the Lakehouse? She changed her mind mid-answer — not the chicken pot pie. "Definitely, hands down, it would be the chicken cordon bleu."

First time visiting? Kathy's advice: if you like a Reuben, definitely go for the Reuben. Not a corned beef or sauerkraut person? The Italian. Or the chicken salad — she likes that one herself.

Her favorite Lakehouse memory so far: opening day. "It was a very busy day, but it was nice to see it finally come to fruition."

Meet the People: Beau, co-owner

Beau's road to The Lakehouse Kitchen started in New Jersey, where he was stationed in his Coast Guard years. "On every corner there was a deli. We frequented those quite a bit, and I always thought it'd be neat to own one. So here we are, 50 years later."

What does Beau do when he's not at the Lakehouse? His answer: "I'm always at the Lakehouse." When he does get away, it's motorcycles, gunsmithing, and boating — he loves being outdoors.

His favorite food here: the Italian sub or the Reuben — both "kind of a top sub." First time in? He'll point you to the Reuben — "it just depends how adventuresome you are."

And his favorite Lakehouse memory says a lot about this place: a lady came in and ordered a deli tray for the Breckinridge County Sheriff's Office, to thank them for helping her husband. Beau helped put it together, and she delivered it herself.

Next time you're in, say hi to Beau at the counter.
