Crete named one of the best food destinations in the world? No surprise here. 🇬🇷

From exceptional olive oil and graviera cheese to dakos, honey, and incredible wines, Crete showcases the very best of the Mediterranean diet.

Now who’s joining me for dakos and a glass of Cretan wine? 🍅🫒🍷

Crete just claimed the top spot on National Geographic's list of the 15 best food destinations in the world for 2026, beating out cities across Canada, Australia, Vietnam, and Colombia.

The magazine highlighted the island's recent recognition as the model for Mediterranean Diet in Europe, pointing to its exceptional extra virgin olive oil, fresh produce, legumes, and grains. It also noted that Cretans have unusually low rates of heart disease, linked in part to limited consumption of meat and dairy.

National Geographic spotlighted traditional Cretan flavors including honey, graviera cheese, raki, snails, slow-roasted antikristo lamb, stewed greens, and spicy myzithra. The piece traveled through the rugged cliffs of Sfakia, the ancient palace of Knossos, the White Mountains, and the old town of Chania.

The magazine also praised a new generation of Cretan chefs combining centuries-old techniques with modern gastronomy, and recommended visitors explore local wineries, olive oil tastings, and traditional tavernas serving home-style cooking.

Crete ranked first on the list, ahead of destinations like Hawaii's main islands and Somerset in the UK.

West Roxbury, MA…Did you know that feta can only be called feta when it’s produced in Greece using traditional methods?

At Greek International Food Market, we carry more than 10 varieties of authentic Greek feta—from creamy and mild to tangy and barrel-aged. Many are available for sampling so you can find your favorite before taking it home.

Forget the generic feta-style cheeses. Real Greek feta has character, depth, and a flavor that transforms everything from salads to grilled vegetables.

Some of our favorite ways to enjoy feta this summer:

🇬🇷 Greek salad
🍉 Watermelon & feta
🥒 Cucumber salad
🔥 Grilled vegetables
🥙 Sandwiches and wraps
🧀 Straight from the container (we won’t judge)

Whether you prefer a creamy sheep’s milk feta, a tangy sheep and goat blend, or a traditional barrel-aged variety, we invite you to stop in and sample the difference.

Real feta. Real Greece. Real flavor.
