Nearly 3,000 people across 31 states have gotten sick this summer from a parasite outbreak tied to fresh produce — and health officials still don’t know the source. 😳

That’s the reality of a food system where your lettuce might travel a thousand miles and a hundred hands before it reaches your plate.

Local doesn’t mean risk-free. But it does mean you can actually ask the questions that matter — how it’s grown, what water was used, who’s behind it. That kind of transparency is hard to come by at scale.

This is exactly why the Wake Forest Local Food Collaborative exists: to connect you directly with the farmers growing your food, so “I don’t know” isn’t the answer anymore. 🌱

👉 Know your farmer. Know your food. Join us Sunday from 4-5pm at Vitality Chiropractic and Family Wellness to see what we are offering the community.

Buying one jar of honey or one dozen eggs could help protect our local food supply

⚠️ A little reality check from the founder of the Wake Forest Local Food Collaborative.

In 2022, we watched thousands of people suddenly realize how fragile our food system really is.
Grocery shelves emptied.
Prices soared.
Supply chains broke down.

People started asking:
“Where does my food come from?”
“Who grows it?”
“What would I do if the stores couldn’t get what I needed?”

That’s why the Wake Forest Local Food Collaborative was born.

What started with just 5 neighbors has grown to more than 1,800 local families connected to farmers, ranchers, bakers, beekeepers, and food producers right here in our community.

But lately, attendance and sales have slowed.

And honestly, it worries me.

Not because I make money from this (I don’t—I never have and never will), but because local farms can only survive if local families actually buy from them.

The good news? Supporting local food is incredibly easy.

✅ The ordering email goes out on the Wednesday before each pickup
✅ Browse what’s available
✅ Order only what you want
✅ Pick up everything in one stop on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month

No membership.
No minimum order.
No subscription.
No obligation.

This month, I’m asking every family reading this to do one simple thing:
🥕 Buy ONE item.
One loaf of bread.
One dozen eggs.
One jar of honey.
One bundle of vegetables.
One pound of local meat.
Just one thing.

If even a quarter of our 1,800 families purchased one item each month, it would create a tremendous impact for local farmers and help strengthen our local food system.

The food system we want tomorrow depends on the choices we make today.
