Looking for some advice from experienced taxidermists, hide tanners, crafters, or anyone who regularly works with rabbit pelts.

I recently processed my first group of meat rabbits and currently have six pelts that I saved because I really don’t want to see any usable part of the animal go to waste.

They are currently frozen, and I’d love to connect with someone experienced who would be willing to have a conversation with me about what I should be doing from here.

I’m specifically interested in learning the best way to handle and preserve them after processing, whether there is a market for rabbit pelts, what condition buyers or crafters typically want them in, and whether tanning them myself or selling them raw makes the most sense on a small scale.

I’m not looking for guesses or Google answers—I’d really like to hear from people with hands-on experience working with rabbit hides.

Three weeks old and already into everybody’s business. 😂🐇

The newest little Green Acres crew is growing fast, getting curious, and apparently beginning to believe the entire world exists for them to explore.

It’s hard to believe these little ones are already approaching three weeks old. ❤️

This is one of my favorite stages—tiny enough to still be ridiculously cute, but old enough for the personalities and mischief to start showing up.

And yes… I could sit and watch them all day. 😂🌻

Well, it only took me how long… but Barn Cat officially has a name. 😂

Meet Slim. 🧡🤍

He came to Green Acres with Princess and the rest of the original barn cat crew, and for all this time he’s basically just been known as… well… one of the barn cats. 😂

But I’ve finally decided Slim fits him perfectly. Not because he’s underfed—the boy eats just fine. He’s simply built long, lean and narrow.

So there you have it. Another member of the Green Acres crew has officially graduated from “Hey, Cat!” to having an actual name. 😂🌻

Welcome officially, Slim.

⚠️ A little farm-life honesty today…

I know this post may not be for everyone, and I completely respect that.

This weekend, I processed my first group of meat rabbits here at Green Acres.

I’m not going to pretend it was easy. It wasn’t.

I raise these animals. I feed them every day. I care for them. And yes, when the time comes, taking the life of an animal I’ve raised is emotional for me.

But this is also part of the reason I started Green Acres.

I want to understand where food comes from. I want to know how the animals providing that food were raised and cared for. And I want to learn how to use as much of what they provide as possible.

These rabbits will feed another family.

Their manure has helped feed my garden and is used to make the rabbit tea fertilizer I sell.

And now, instead of throwing the pelts away, I’m going to learn how to preserve and hopefully use those too.

Is it pretty?

Nope.

Is it easy?

Absolutely not.

Am I still learning?

Every. Single. Day. 😂

But I’m beginning to understand that farming isn’t just about cute baby chicks, fluffy bunnies, fresh vegetables and pretty pictures.

It’s also about responsibility.

It’s about respecting the animals in your care.

It’s about understanding the circle between the animals, the land, the food we grow and the families we feed.

And sometimes, it’s about standing in your backyard looking at four rabbit pelts hanging on a fence and thinking…

“Well. This is apparently something I do now.” 😂🤦‍♀️

Green Acres continues to teach me lessons I never expected to learn.

Some are beautiful.

Some are difficult.

Some are downright gross.

But all of them are part of this crazy little farm journey. 🌻🐇
