I was just thinking of how local our supper was. Fish from the canal a short bike ride away. Apple pie from our apple tree with a crust from flour from our wheat. Steamed kale. Chestnuts with fresh sage and garlic all from our farm. Here's a tasty chestnut recipe (serves 2). Put 3 cups of chestnuts in a sauce pan, cover with water,and boil 30 minutes. Take a few out of the water at a time with a slotted spoon, cut in half with a sharp paring knife, and remove shells and peels. Saute 6 cloves of pressed fresh garlic and a handful of fresh sage (try olive oil, butter, chicken fat, or bacon grease for a variety of flavors). Add some salt and the chestnuts and heat it up. Cayenne pepper and curry powder are nice additional flavors.

I'm sad to have to say this, but Plow Creek Farm is now essentially closed. No more markets, no more Market Barn sales, no more u-pick. People can still get garlic or elephant garlic, but that's it. (Message us here or email [email protected]) Watch for what develops at Hungry World Farm next year.
