Gibbes in the Garden - May 31, 2026
We included screenshots of a post made by our friend, Sharon Honea. We feel that her words simply cannot go without sharing.
She spoke so beautifully about what community means, and her reflections remind us exactly why we do what we do.
The truth is, being a small, family-owned garden nursery IS often back-breaking work. There are long hot days, cold early mornings, no Saturdays off, uncertain weather, and countless hours spent nurturing not only plants, but new ideas and relationships. EVERY plant purchased, every event attended, every kind word shared truly matters. Those purchases help sustain not only our familyโs livelihood and put groceries on our table, but also support the larger vision of why we believe God sent us back to this little corner of the world 10 years ago.
The spirit of small-town living, entrepreneurship, self-sufficiency through responsible stewardship, and neighbors helping neighbors is still alive here. It lives in the small business owners, families, gardeners, farmers, makers, and friends who continue to show up for one another. It lives in those who choose Community Over Competition and to support local when it would be easier not to. It lives around tables filled with good food, shared stories, laughter, and authentic conversations.
At Williamson Nursery, we have always believed that a garden center can be more than a place to buy plants. It can be a gathering place. A place where conversations happen, friendships form, knowledge is shared, and people feel connected to something bigger than themselves.
Gibbes in the Garden was never intended to be just a dinner. It was created as an opportunity to slow down, gather together, meet new faces, reconnect with old friends, and celebrate the people who make this place special.
To H. D. Gibbes & Sons (Henry Gibbes Susan Feldman Gibbes and the whole rest of the family), thank you for sharing your incredible talents and passion with our community and our own little family. The end-of-the-night-meal is generationally inspiring!
To Ethan and Cody, a good time is never good enough without the music. You each provided the soundtracks for connection and celebration.
To every guest who joined us this time or anytime before, thank you for being part of something that continues to grow far beyond the plants.
There are many others who work behind the scenes to help us bring together all the details. We hope you always know our immense gratitude for WHO YOU ARE and how you continue to show up for us. ๐ซถ๐ป
And to Ms. Sharon, thank you for putting into words what so many of us feel. Community is built one conversation, one meal, one friendship, and one act of support at a time.
We are grateful to be rooted here with all of you. ๐
