Meet Miss Hannah 🐮 aka Hannah Banana aka 1088.
Hannah is 10+ years old. It is very unusual to have dairy cows this age on average dairy farms. However, we strive to be above average. One of our unique qualities being a smaller dairy, is breeding and raising cows for LONGEVITY not production. We don’t push for milk production. They do have to be good producers to earn their keep. But in the end we like hearty, solid girls🐮 that produce high quality, high component (butterfats) milk that will live longer.
Pushing for high production lowers the lifespan of the animal. If Hannah was on an average farm she may have gotten to stay for 3 lactations before being sold. This is Hannah’s 8th lactation and as you can see , she is a docile, solid girl…good legs, broad and for a ten year old cow, a nice udder. 😍
We kind of get attached 🤷🏼♀️. Our love is what makes our products unique.
Hannah was named after her mother cow Hippity aka #781. “Hippity Hoppity let’s not Stoppity” 🤣 Hippity was a very large Holstein/Jersey Crossbred. Hannah is a three way crossbreed of Holstein/Jersey/Norwegian Red cattle. One of our first 3 way crosses.
Some farms like purebreds cows. Every farm has different needs. For our operation, the land we have to graze, barns we have for housing and comfort…we have found success in diversifying our herd by crossbreeding.
