Emerald Acres Farm of Door County

Emerald Acres Farm of Door County Small sustainable farm offering fresh vegetables, fruit, and Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats. We grow our herbs, vegetables and fruit using organic practices.

We are Livin' the Dream on our small sustainable farm where we grow and raise healthy food for a healthy community and healthy environment. Our farm is located near Sturgeon Bay in beautiful Door County, Wisconsin. Seasonally, we offer fresh herbs, vegetables, fruit, eggs from free-ranging hens, pastured meat chickens, purebred Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats, mixed breed dairy goats (mini-alpines and

mini-oberhasli) and grass-fed goat meat for sale. Our egg-laying chickens (a mixed flock of >6 different breeds, some of which are Heritage breeds) are pastured in rotation around the property and enjoy eating a variety of plants and insects to supplement their fed. During the summer, we raise our meat chickens in portable pens, which we rotate daily on our pastures. Our purebred Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats were bred for their excellence in dairy quality, temperament and conformation and make great milking, show or pet goats for families and microfarms. We also raise mixed breed, non-registered mini-alpines and mini-oberhasli dairy goats for sale. Our goats (for meat when available) are browse and grass-fed (grain-free diet) and we employ rotational grazing practices for all goats on our property. Their pasture diet is supplemented with hay along with the vegetables we grow. All our animals are treated respectfully and allowed access to the outdoors, sunlight, and fresh air they need! We will work toward organic certification as our business grows sufficiently to financially support the certification process. Contact us to purchase produce, eggs, or meat straight from the farm or visit us this summer at the Sturgeon Bay Farmer's Market! Our family....This entire operation is run by our small family of four, David (he also works a full-time job outside of the home!), Valerie and our two beautiful and energetic children. The farming business is A LOT of work and we started nearly from scratch. Some days we feel overwhelmed and wonder how to best focus our efforts on the farm. After each of our children were born and with each passing season, our vision grows a little more clear as we work to grow and raise healthy food for our family and community. Emerald Acres Farm is truly the perfect place for our family to embark on this exciting adventure together, and we look forward to sharing our production with the great community here in Door County, WI. Farm goals....
Our goal is to provide healthy whole foods raised and grown ethically and respectfully to our community. We passionately care about the health of our environment and the food we produce—our farm practices reflect these values. By using organic practices, we provide habitat for native pollinators and manage our land to benefit wildlife. Looking toward the future....
As we gain experience and refine our techniques, we intend to grow our little farm to produce a larger selection of herbs, vegetables and fruit including heirloom and difficult to find varieties, eggs from free-ranging hens, pasture raised meat chickens, free-ranging turkeys, beautiful quality purebred Nigerian Dwarf dairy goats, mixed breed (mini-alpines and mini-oberhasli) dairy goats, and goat meat for sale. We are considering the option of working toward organic certification as our business grows sufficiently to financially support the certification process.

Time to celebrate! And then get to planting! The new high tunnel is finished! Hurray!!! Everything about it is so shiny and new. It feels like fresh beginnings, just as every spring does when we start to plant. So much potential lies ahead!

Goats are loving their morning treat of brush cuttings! Cutting out the invasive brush from our habitat areas and orchard is a constant maintenance task but the goats don't mind the benefits!

More cool bug photos from the farm! We found these on a young aspen tree along one of our access lanes. They looked different then the masses of tent catapillars we occasionally get. My first thought was oh my what new invasive do we have now. I guess I shouldn't be so negative. This one is a mourning cloak or spiny elm caterpillar. A neat, menacing looking catipillar that turns into a beautiful butterfly!

Pac choy in peanut sauce with a little left over roast chicken topped with garlic chives! We had two bunches of poc choy and a bunch of garlic chives left after the farmers market. What were people thinking not to buy those?!!! Well, we had a great lunch!
