One more day to get it in the freezer!

Hunters may have noticed fewer deer sightings this season, and there are good biological reasons for it.

Warmer than normal temperatures and an abundant acorn crop can reduce daytime deer movement. When natural food sources are widespread and highly available, deer don’t need to travel as far or as often to feed. This often results in fewer visible deer, even though overall deer numbers remain stable.

Despite lower observations, harvest is still needed and appropriate to help maintain balanced deer populations and healthy habitats. Lower visibility does not mean fewer deer, it means deer are simply moving less and spreading out across available food sources.

As conditions change later in the season and food availability declines, deer movement typically increases again. Continued hunter participation remains an important part of effective deer population management.
