Many remember the Rev. Jesse Louis Jackson's most famous quote "KEEP HOPE ALIVE" that he passionately delivered during his 1988 presidential campaign. The Rev. Jackson was not the first African American to run for president of this country but he was the first to mount a major nationwide campaign - the National Rainbow Coalition.

Rev. Jackson secured millions of votes in 1984 and 1988. The indomitable Shirley Chisholm ran before him in 1972. His life and work consistently encouraged people to have perseverance, optimism and to struggle against social and political adversity.

A transformative man, the Rev. Jackson was a Baptist Minister, a young protege of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., an activist who championed the rights of Blacks, poor and working class people, an international Diplomat and a presidential hopeful in the 1980's who is credited with paving the way for President Barack Obama's victory. Please enjoy the Rev. Jesse Jackson pictorial tribute.
