After Mother Nature had other plans for us last Saturday, we are BACK — and she’s making it up to us with one beautiful fall morning.

The sun is shining. It’s a crisp 65 degrees. The tents are going up. The tables are filling.

IT’S MARKET DAY. 🙌

October marks one of the most beautiful transitions of our entire season. Summer produce is beginning to fade, while the flavors of fall are arriving in full force.

BUT OUR FARMERS & SMALL BUSINESSES ARE STILL OPEN. 🌱❤️

Mother Nature forced us to make the difficult decision to cancel today’s Sparta Farmers Market, but there’s another side to that decision that we don’t want to get lost in the weather.

The food was already grown.
The vegetables were already harvested.
The bread was already baked.
The products were already made.

Our farmers, growers, makers and bakers spent the entire week preparing for YOU — their Saturday customers.

And while we can’t bring all of them together in Sparta today, many of them still have that beautiful bounty waiting for you at their farms, farm stands, bakeries and shops. Visit their farm stands. Stop into their shops. Pick up your vegetables directly from the farm. Grab the bread, cheese, meats, honey, flowers and locally made foods you would have put in your market bag this morning.

Maybe even visit two or three.

Because a cancelled market doesn’t just mean a cancelled Saturday for dozens of small family businesses, it can mean losing one of the most important sales days of their week.

So we have a little challenge for our market community today:

⚠️🌬️ IMPORTANT: TODAY’S SPARTA FARMERS MARKET IS CANCELLED 🌬️⚠️

Sparta, after reviewing the updated forecast this morning, we have made the difficult decision to CANCEL TODAY’S MARKET before setup begins.

While we are proudly a rain-or-shine market, the forecast for high wind gusts creates a different concern entirely.

Tents, canopies, signs and displays simply aren’t safe in strong, unpredictable winds — and the safety of our farmers, vendors, staff and community will always come first.

We know our farmers, growers, makers and bakers were prepared to show up this morning with an incredible harvest, and we know many of you were prepared to pull on the rain boots and show up for them. ❤️

We cannot thank you enough for that.

Sometimes being a rain-or-shine market also means knowing when conditions have crossed the line from uncomfortable to potentially unsafe.

So today, we stay home. We stay safe. And we’ll save the rainbow seeds for another Saturday. 🌈🌱

We’ve reached that glorious stretch of the season when New Jersey farms are absolutely showing off.

Tomorrow morning, the Sparta Farmers Market returns with 32 local farmers, growers, makers & bakers bringing the very best of late-summer abundance to town.

And right now, two undisputed Jersey heavyweights are ruling the tables:

🍅 TOMATOES. Big, beautiful, juicy, vine-ripened Jersey tomatoes in all their late-August glory.

🌽 SWEET CORN. Picked fresh, unbelievably sweet and destined for one more summer cookout.

We’ve been a little quiet on social lately…but the farms certainly haven’t been.

Because right now?

SUMMER IS SHOWING OFF.

We are smack in the middle of PEAK summer produce season, and tomorrow’s market is going to be absolutely loaded.

🍅 Jersey tomatoes are coming in FLUSH big ones, little ones, heirlooms, slicers, cherries…tomatoes are TOMATOING.

🌽 Sweet corn is stacked high.
