Blue Moon Pastures

Blue Moon Pastures Organically fed chickens, and in season vegetables Blue Moon Pastures is a joint effort between two family farms in two sites.

Anne and Jason LeClaire live on the East side of Silver Lake, and
Dennis and Sue Puschmann live 10 miles North of Hutch. Our chickens are fed organic feed from a local farmer, and once they get feathers they are raised in outdoor, mobile pens so they can peck in the fresh grass and eat bugs. Chickens for 2014 are $11 per bird and are 4-5 pounds on average. You can order whole birds or we can cut them up for you.

Are you thinking about chickens? We are! If you would like chickens I would recommend messaging me early this year. I don't think that we are going to do as many chickens this year. I'm just too busy with the rest of our farm chores to do several batches.

On a good note! In a few weeks we will have tons of milk, and if all goes well we will have Hereford piglets for sale in the late spring, and Hereford pork for sale late this fall!

Such a clumsy morning!

Ah, graceful me... I got back from taking Lucy to the bus and figured I'd better let Eliza in and give her some good hay. As I walked into the loft, or "barn locker" as Dennis called it as a litt...

I love autumn, but man do I dread winter! I'm not a fan of the freezing weather! Speaking of freezing, we still have frozen chickens at $14 per bird!

Whew, it's been a crazy spring! The garden won't be what I hoped this year, but we should have a ton of heirloom tomatoes and hopefully some honey. Many of you know my husband sustained a spinal cord injury in a motorcycle accident last fall and is partially paralyzed, and then was diagnosed with bladder cancer in January. On June 1st, he had surgery to remove his bladder and today we are going home! It has been, and continues to be, a long tough road, but hopefully in a month or two things will get easier.

So, farming time starts again! We are going to be butchering soon, so in the next week or so I will be contacting those of you who have ordered chickens. I'm excited to get back to the farm, and have tons of catching up to do!

Have you thought of ordering chickens this year yet? This year June is quite possibly the only month we will be offering birds because of the health issues in our family. In October Jason was in a motorcycle accident. After learning to walk again and beginning to recover some muscle mass with physical therapy, he was diagnosed with aggressive bladder cancer and has to have his bladder removed. We bought our first chickens before we realized that he needed such a big surgery. Depending on his recovery we may offer a fall batch, but at this point we aren't sure.
