It’s June, which means two of the farm’s most anticipated harvests have arrived: garlic scapes and elderflowers!

One is bold, savory, and packed with garlicky goodness. The other is delicate, fragrant, and tastes like summer itself. Together, they mark a short but wonderful season that we look forward to every year.

Garlic scapes are perfect for pesto, compound butters, soups, and stir-fries. Elderflowers can be dried for tea or transformed into the classic English favorite—Elderflower Cordial.

That cordial brings back special memories for our family. Nick’s Aunt Joan, who grew up in England, loved Elderflower Cordial. Every summer, when the elderflowers bloomed, we would make a batch and bring her a jar. Seeing her smile as she tasted a familiar flavor from home made the effort worthwhile. Now, making cordial each June feels like carrying on a sweet tradition.

Our son Levi came out and helped harvest Garlic Scapes, Friday for farmers market. He normally hates to harvest, but found picking scapes satisfying in an ASMR kinda way. 🙃

Do you have clay soil but dream of a beautiful, productive garden? Here’s our simple method that’s transforming our beds naturally…

Last fall, Silver Lake, Indiana dropped off leaves collected during their seasonal leaf cleanup. We spread those leaves thickly over our garden beds and covered them with tarps for the winter. Let the worms and centipedes do the rest.

Today, we’re running our flail mower over the beds to finely chop the leaves right in place — creating instant garden beds packed with organic matter.

No tilling needed, which means we’re not bringing buried w**d seeds back to the surface. Just rich, healthy soil that will grow stronger, healthier produce naturally.

Here’s what we’re harvesting for farmers market tomorrow The Farmers Market at Winona. We will also have a full display of tomatoes, sweet and hot pepper plants 🪴and potted herbs, cucumber and zucchini plants. All organically grown on our farm. Mows the time to get your garden in!

We bribed the kids with a trip to rocketfizzwinona and nicodemus_enterprises if they would help plant. 1 hour later🕰️: 5 beds prepped and planted. 96 tomato plants and 230 pickling cucumbers 🥒 .
