FRIDAY NIGHTS have a new meaning in Sherman. For decades, pizza connoisseurs have argued over the hierarchy of Connecticut’s legendary coal-and-wood-fired parlors. Today, a new contender has emerged, but it isn’t in New Haven or Stamford. It’s in a parking lot on the Sherman Green.
Rich and Cassie Parente, owners of the Daily Market grocery, have created a true “pizza oasis” one night a week. Drawing upon Rich’s decades of specialized pizza-making experience—time spent perfecting the crust and sourcing the finest ingredients—the Parentes are serving what might be, and probably is, the best pizza in Connecticut.
Their simple set-up belies the complexity of flavor. Utilising a portable, high-temperature wood oven, Rich creates pies that are redefining the local standard. One local resident, Sarah Jenkins, shared her thoughts: “I’ve had them all, but Rich’s pie is on another level. The crust is airy, the toppings are incredible. It’s a game-changer.”
The Parentes, known for their focus on quality at the Daily Market, have brought the same ethos to their pizza pop-up. Using only artisanal dough and amazing, sourced ingredients, every slice is a testament to craft.
Connecticut’s culinary giants like Frank Pepe might finally have a true rival for their money, and it’s located in an unassuming parking lot. This is no hyperbole; this is the real deal. Make sure to get there early; the lines are long and the pies are limited.
