🍓 Look at the growth these new strawberry plants have made since we planted them on May 10th!

They're already blossoming, which means it's time to start deblossoming ✂️. First-year plants need to focus on growing strong roots and sending out runners, so we remove the blossoms to help build a healthy crop for next year.

It's a time-consuming, back-breaking job; and, unfortunately the weeds 🌱 are growing right along with them. ☹️

Meanwhile, our established fields are in full bloom and looking beautiful. That means strawberry season is getting close—we expect to start picking in about 3–4 weeks.

It won't be long now until the wait for Lindy's Berries red, ripe, juicy strawberries is over! 🍓❤️🌱

🍓 Planting Week is underway at Lindy’s Berries! 🍓

We’ve officially begun planting 39,000 strawberry plants that will become our 2027 harvest. This year’s lineup includes Annapolis, AC Wendy, Jewel, Darselect, and Cabots—varieties we’ve grown for years and know perform well for us.

On a good day, we can get 8,000–10,000 plants in the ground, but the cold weather has been keeping us on our toes. 🌡️ Between the past few nights and the 5-7 day forecast that looks much the same, we’ve also been up around the clock frost-protecting this year’s crop. Somewhere in there, the guys have to grab a little sleep—so not every day is a big planting day.

It’s a busy, exhausting, and sometimes stressful stretch of the season, but it’s also exciting to think ahead to what these plants will produce next year. 🍓🍓🍓

🍓 This week at Lindy’s Berries, we kicked off the labor-intensive process of uncovering our strawberry fields.

Last fall, we covered the plants with straw to protect them through the winter. 🚜 In spring, that straw is first gently removed with equipment, then carefully adjusted by hand using pitchforks to ensure each row has an even layer of mulch.

This layer helps suppress weeds and creates a clean, dry bed for the berries—so the fruit rests on straw instead of soil.

The extra straw is placed between the rows, which not only helps keep weeds down but also provides a walkway and a comfortable surface for pickers to kneel on during harvest.

💦 Our irrigation system is now up and running. We’re currently filling our pond from the well, which supplies water for both irrigation and frost protection. With some chilly nights ahead, we’ll be watching temperatures closely and turning on the sprinklers as needed to protect those first blossoms as they begin to emerge. 🌼

Every step we take now is setting the stage for a successful strawberry season. 🍓

Spring is waking up here at Lindy’s Berries, and that means we’re busy getting everything ready for the strawberry season ahead! 🌱🍓

We’ve started setting irrigation pipe and working through maintenance (and repairs when needed) to make sure the tender blossoms are protected from frost damage and our plants get just the right amount of water. Our tractors and machinery are also getting a full check-up so everything is ready to roll when the season kicks into high gear.

We’re closely monitoring ground temperatures and watching the weather to decide the perfect time to uncover our strawberry fields. Once soil temperatures are consistently at 43°F 🌡️, we’ll begin removing the straw.

We have 38,000 strawberry plants on order, and as soon as the weather is favorable for planting, we’ll be busy getting those in the ground for picking in 2027. Timing is everything, and every step matters when it comes to bringing you the best berries possible!

A lot happens before those first ripe berries make it in the bucket and out to you.

And don’t forget — Mother’s Day is right around the corner! 💐 We have gift certificates available, perfect for the berry-loving moms in your life. Just message us here or call/text 715-468-7635 and we’ll be happy to prepare one (or a few!) for you.

We can’t wait to see you again soon. Stay tuned… strawberry season will be here before you know it! 🍓
