Whispering Pines Stables/Upstate Equestrian Ministry We have Horses, Cows, Dairy sheep and goats, Livestock Guardian dogs, chickens and duck! Debbie has trained horses and riders at world class levels.

We have homesteading classes, starter flocks and a Farm store with our sheep, goat and cow milk products like Manchego, Feta, Yogurt, Kefir, Meats and wool products. She is a certified Special Olympics equestrian coach, a FEMA assistant for horse-related disasters, author of articles in Focus on the Family and other magazines, a public speaker, a counselor, wife, mother, foster parent, and now she has added a new trophy to her collection of accomplishments. She has just recently become the first equestrian chaplain to be endorsed by the North American Mission Board.

We use the horses in our multi-species rotational grazing program to lower the height of the forage for the cattle, sheep and goats. Horses don’t have any problems with parasites that bother ruminants. When horses graze those pastures, it like they take all the parasites away! When we chose to do regenerative ag practices, we use natural ways to improve the soils, get rid of weeds and help the livestock to live in harmony with the land. Horses can be very hard on pastures and forages but management is key! We are very intentional when we rotate pastures!

We have been selectively breeding our dairy sheep and goats since the 90’s and have amazing results. Super healthy, parasite resistant, easy to milk and lots of milk! To achieve these results, it’s not just one thing! 50 % genetics and 50% management. We help people get started and continue to help through the journey! If you just want some milk for your family, you would be fine with dairy goats. We found out that the better the quality of the dairy animal, the easier time for us with all aspects from care to milking to yields! The methods matter too. It’s very stressful for animals whether sheep or goats or even people to move to a new location and leave everything they ever knew- places, routines and their people but if they went with a familiar friend, it was much easier! Don’t get one goat or sheep at a time and expect a smooth transition. After all, it’s not a cow that offers way too much milk for one family, you need at least two but better if you have enough to start a good flock to do what you want to do. We use at least two males with each breed. With our dairy sheep, we often use 5 different rams per season.

We have lots of baby goats and some adults available. We start so many people that are new to homesteading and want to provide proteins for their family as well as give their children an opportunity to be outside and working with farm animals. Sheep and goats are wonderful for a family farm!

We are downsizing our sheep and goat inventory! We have starter flocks, pregnant sheep and goats as well as some cute little baby goats! We have Nigerian dwarf goats, Nubians, saanens, alpines and mini- everything!-Saanen and Mini- Nubians! We have breeding stock males and wethers for pets.
Our sheep breeds- dairy- East Fresian, Assaf, Awassi mix.
Our meat wool breed is Tunis
Our hair meat breed is Katahdin.

Happy Mother’s Day. We’re also celebrating buy your mom a goat month. Lambs work for that holiday too! Whispering Pines is leading the way for new farmers in South Carolina. We teach ‘How to’ and continue to mentor! We even have started farms in many other states!
We’re here to help! Whether you’re wanting pets or want to raise your own meat, milk, cheese or other dairy products, we teach classes to help. We have goats with kids in milk or baby goat kids. Lambs and sheep in milk too. We have classes- hands on learning to milk!
