What a beautiful way to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the market! ❤️🌿
This past Sunday, two of our wonderful market vendors, Cita of Cita’s Kitchen and Silvia of Mi Fiesta Catering, stepped out from behind their regular booths and into our Chef Demo space to share a little of their food, knowledge, and culture with all of us.
🍌 Cita celebrated the plantain in two very different — and equally delicious — ways. She made patacones, crispy fried green plantains topped with her very own sofrito, followed by sweet fried plantains topped with crema and cheese for the perfect sweet-and-salty bite.
Plantains can now be found in so many of our local grocery stores, and Cita wanted to show us just how much you can do with this one beautiful ingredient. Whether green and savory or ripe and sweet, there’s so much possibility!
🌶️ Silvia brought the heat with a brand-new Salsa Casera, made with chile de árbol for just the right kick. She walked us through how she makes this flavorful homemade salsa and, lucky for all of us, she shared the recipe! You’ll find it on the last slide so you can bring a little of Silvia’s cooking into your own kitchen.
Hispanic Heritage Month gives us an opportunity to recognize the incredible richness and diversity of Hispanic cultures — the food, traditions, stories, recipes, and knowledge carried through families and generations. We feel especially fortunate that at our market, we don’t only get to celebrate that richness once a year. Cita and Silvia are part of our market community every Sunday, sharing their food and traditions with all of us week after week.
You’ll find Silvia and Mi Fiesta Catering in our Prepared Food Alley and Cita’s Kitchen in the Plaza every Sunday. Next time you’re at the market, be sure to swing by, say hello, and try something delicious. 💚
Thank you, Cita and Silvia, for sharing your food, your knowledge, and a piece of your heritage with our community. What a wonderful Sunday! 🌿❤️
