Our Story

It started in the middle of 2016. A chance meeting with a beekeeper in his late 70’s, caused me to the get the itch to become a beekeeper. Little did I know this new found hobby would take such a fascinating turn. We read books, researched, attended bee meetings and ordered our equipment in preparation for the arrival of our first hive of honeybees. It was a warm spring day when they arrived. As an eager beekeeper, I went to help out the folks with unloading a trailer full of honeybees that had traveled all afternoon. As the sun began to lower toward the horizon, I dawned my borrowed veil that I had not securely fastened and was soon in the middle of a massive cloud of honeybees as the trailer was being unloaded. I felt a sharp stick in my neck and then I heard buzzing next to my face and I started running around doing the dance of the crazy man as I attempted to get one angry honeybee out of my veil in the midst of a cloud of honeybees. It was comical, as I reflect upon this story. I knew I was hooked when I just pulled a chair out to my new beehive and was completely mesmerized by the action at the front of my hive. Since then our hilltop apiary grew from the first hive to three and now this spring we will grow to four hives. Look for the updates and pictures as the weather warms up this spring.

There is nothing sweeter than watching honey being made on our little hilltop!
