Quality time in the tunnel—out of the rain—harvesting lettuce for and Community Farmers Market Bowling Green. Once the heads are cut, we ‘clip’ the rest of the stem just below the surface of the soil and throw what’s left in a 5 gallon bucket to compost.

Happy New Year’s broccoli harvest. It was an incredibly wet end to ‘18, and we lost some of the broccoli from rot, but we’re grateful to have enough to go around for the next . Given the Winter stays mild, we hope to get loads^2 of side-shoots. Technical notes: beds with double rows orientated E/W on 18”s, most of the rot is on the N-facing side of each bed (those heads are also about half the size).

Broadforkin’ more beds in the high-tunnel for a mid-January planting. Hoping to stave off the hungry months from late Winter through early Spring with fresh greens and roots. We are still taking time off for the holiday, we’ll be coming back on January 5th, but you can still find a wealth of good local food tomorrow. Side note: the Meadow Creature is—tines down—the best I’ve ever used.

A not-so-little Winter side-project of ours, notillgrowers.com, will go live December 31st. We’re working with to build an online aggregator: podcasts, videos, farm profiles, collections, articles, and a community farmers forum about small-scale, no-till, profitable veg production. Our aim is to improve our soil, our profits, and our quality of life by reducing tillage on our farms. Maybe you have similar goals. Sign up for the mailing list to know the minute it goes live and get monthly digests of the best no-till content we’ve gotten our dirty hands—presumably from all the compost—on. In the meantime, follow and check out the latest episode of with .
