We had another busy week of planting here on the farm.

This week we planted sweet corn, red beets, green beans, sunflowers, cantaloupes, watermelons, honeydews, cucumbers, summer squash, lettuce, cole crops, greens, and arugula. We also planted our last high tunnel with tomatoes, which should help keep a steady supply of fresh tomatoes coming later this season.

We also planted our first planting of Chinese Sticky Corn. We grew a small test planting last year, and it was very well received by our customers. We are excited to grow more this season and look forward to hearing what everyone thinks.

Not everything always goes according to plan, however. It appears the local crows were quite fond of our first planting of lima beans and helped themselves to nearly every seed we planted! We'll be replanting that crop and hoping for better results the second time around.

After receiving nearly 4 inches of much-needed rain, the ground finally dried out enough for us to get back into the fields. As a result, it has been a very busy week on the farm!

This week we planted lima beans, roma beans, wax beans, green beans, heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, cantaloupes, watermelons, honeydews, eggplant, garden eggs, Italian sweet peppers, bell peppers, poblano peppers, jalapeño peppers, okra, leeks, sweet potatoes, lettuce, Brussels sprouts, cucumbers, pickling cucumbers, jade cucumbers, and all types of flowers. It's hard to believe how much can get done when the weather finally cooperates!

Strawberry season is beginning to wind down, with production decreasing a little each day. We expect to have strawberries available for about two more weeks, depending on weather and field conditions. We have also wrapped up our rhubarb harvest for the season and cut our final asparagus yesterday. Thank you to everyone who enjoyed these spring favorites.

Newly available this week for delivery are zucchini and greenhouse-grown tomatoes. Our tomato plants are finally producing enough that we can begin offering tomatoes through our online store.

We also harvested our first small crop of blue oyster mushrooms this week and sold them at the farmers market. The mushrooms were well received, and now our challenge is learning how to scale production and time our growing cycles so we can offer a more consistent supply. Like most things in farming, it's a learning process, but we're excited about the possibilities.

With the warmer weather returning this week, there has been no better time to enjoy a cold can of Scenic View Orchards Sparkling Cider. Made from 100% Scenic View apples with no preservatives, it has been the perfect refreshment after a long day in the field.
