🍲 It's fall – it's bigos season! 🇵🇱

Every Polish family has its own bigos recipe – but they all start with good kiszona kapusta. 🥬

Our homemade sauerkraut (cabbage, carrots, bay leaves, caraway seeds, and salt – naturally fermented, no vinegar) is the perfect base:

🥬 Kiszona kapusta + a little fresh cabbage
🌭 Kiełbasa and smoked meat
🍄 Dried mushrooms
🍷 A splash of red w**e and some prunes (optional – but Babcia approves!)
⏳ And the secret ingredient: time – bigos tastes best on day 2 or 3!

Pick up our kiszona kapusta, kiełbasa, and smoked meats – and start your bigos this weekend! 👇

What's YOUR family's bigos secret? Tell us in the comments! 💬

🥬 Fresh this week at Amish Farmers!

Fall cooking season is here – and our shelves are full:

🍅 Amish tomatoes – ripe and juicy; add fresh cilantro and you’re ready for homemade salsa
🥬 Amish green & red cabbage – for gołąbki, soup or a crunchy coleslaw
🟣 Amish beets – perfect for barszcz or a roasted beet salad
🧄 Amish young garlic – mild enough to use raw! Chop it fresh over egg salad, potato salad, or tuna salad
🧅 Amish yellow onions – cook them low and slow, and they turn rich and sweet – the gold standard for French onion soup and caramelized onions
🔴 Amish red onions – best raw in salads, burgers, sandwiches, grain bowls, and fresh salsa for a bright pop of color and crunch
🍠 Amish sweet potatoes – roast them, mash them, love them
🌶️ Amish jalapeños – add a little kick to anything 🔥

Grown on small Amish farms and brought to our shelves fresh.

🧀 Saturday plans? Build the perfect cheese board!

Here’s our easy formula for a board everyone will love:

🧀 3 cheeses – something mild (Colby-Jack or Brick), something sharp (Raw Milk Cheddar), and something with a kick (Muenster Jalapeño or Ghost Pepper Cheddar 🔥)

🥓 Something savory – smoked kielbasa, homemade bacon, or hard salami from our deli

🍎 Something fresh – crisp apples or grapes

🍯 Something sweet – raw clover honey or a homemade jam (try Barb’s apple cinnamon or Beachy’s no-sugar-added cherry!)

🥖 Something crunchy – fresh artisan bread or crackers

Arrange, pour something nice, and enjoy! ✨

🥚 Did You Know? – Egg Edition!

🤎 Brown or white – which is better? Neither! Shell color depends only on the breed of the hen, not on taste or nutrition. Fun fact: hens with white earlobes often lay white eggs, and hens with red earlobes often lay brown ones! 🐔

🧡 A deeper, more golden yolk usually comes from what the hen eats – greens, grains and bugs make that beautiful color.

🛡️ Did you know eggs have a natural “bloom”? It’s a thin protective coating that seals the shell and keeps the egg fresh. Our farm eggs are never washed – each one is gently cleaned by hand with a dry cloth, so they keep their natural bloom!
Just remember: once eggs have been refrigerated, keep them in the fridge. ❄️

💧 Is your egg fresh? Try the water test! Gently place it in a bowl of water:
✅ Sinks and lies flat – very fresh
👍 Sinks but stands up – older, but still good (and perfect for hard-boiling – easier to peel!)
❌ Floats – time to toss it

Which do you buy – brown or white? 👇

🌾 – a little trip to the farm!
Ever wonder where your food really comes from? These photos are from one of our visits to the small Amish family farms that supply our stores. 💛

🌽 Corn stacked by hand into shocks to dry – the old-fashioned way
🐐 Curious goats saying hello
🐔 Chickens roaming free around the barn
🐴 Horses doing the heavy lifting instead of tractors
🌼 And fall mums ready for the market

No shortcuts – just fresh air, hard work, and time. That’s the food we bring to your table every day. 🧺

🌮 Plot twist: Amish farmers LOVE taco night!
You might not think “Amish” when you think “tacos,” but trust us: good tacos start with good ingredients. 😉

🥩 Our grass-fed ground beef is raised without added hormones or antibiotics.
🐔 Our Amish chicken comes from small family farms, free-range and raised without antibiotics- no shortcuts. Just natural feed, fresh air, and time.
🌶️ Skip the packet! Season with our spices: cumin, smoked paprika, garlic powder, oregano, and a pinch of cayenne- no fillers, just flavor.
🧀 Grab a brick of cheese and shred it yourself! Pre-shredded cheese has anti-caking agents (like cellulose or potato starch); a block melts smoother and tastes better.
Our taco picks: Colby-Jack, Raw Milk Cheddar, Muenster Jalapeño – or Ghost Pepper Cheddar if you’re brave! 🔥
🍅 Fresh tomatoes, red onion, garlic, colorful bell peppers, crisp Amish butter lettuce – and jalapeños if you like a kick 🌶️
🫙 Pick your heat with Nada’s Salsa from Arcola, Illinois – mild, medium, hot, mango, or corn – or go green with Grandma Belle’s Salsa Verde.
🥄 Top it all with creamy sour cream and a handful of fresh cilantro 🌿 – that’s when taco night goes to the next level. 🙌

🍚 Feeling like a burrito bowl? Add long-grain, jasmine, basmati, or organic brown basmati rice, and dinner is ready.
