If your able, grow your good food.
Ever wonder why communities are supporting the growth of local food?
• Improved health — local foods tend to be ‘whole foods’ and less processed.
• Economic opportunity — dollars spent on local food tend to circulate and have a multiplying effect in the local economy.
• Increased food access to the poor – community and home gardens give direct access to food.
Why does this matter anyway?
Increasing energy costs are continuing to boost food costs, and investments in local production have the potential to decrease the cost of food for all people in the region. Today, food prices are linked to energy prices. With every spike in oil prices, food prices also spike.
