There was a time not too long ago, before the boom of industrial agriculture, when small farmers and homesteads raised livestock to put meat on their tables and those of their neighbors. This practice has gone by the wayside along with those slow-growing heritage breeds. I was raised on a small hog farm in the 1980’s. We raised a variety of heritage breeds of pork and on occasion, we were lucky enough to butcher one for our own table. I still remember the savory, deep pork taste of bacon, pork chops and country ham. In my opinion, you just can’t find that in a store. My wife and I started Pin Oak Farm with a desire to bring those products back, focusing on quality rather than quantity, for the health of our family and yours. We believe you are what you eat, eats. With “clean” meat as our number one priority, you can rest assured our animals are not receiving antibiotics or growth hormones.
